Chester - 1851 census help?

Post by daggers »

I have had help here with a query involving Chester College. In 1851 its census records are at HO 107/2172, around pages 40/41 etc., the address being 'College', within St Oswald's parish.

Usually we can go to the first page of a set to find the enumerator's description of his district but on the Ancestry version the first available page lists houses in Canal Street. Does anyone have access to another provider, where the description is included? I believe FMP have this census available, for one.

Hi Daggers,

It's the same on FMP and I would imagine the same wherever the 51 census is opened or held.

That worked a treat. Thanks for the lateral thinking.

The link on the other thread to a map showing the college has St Oswald over it if you zoom out. I think Bert and I had the right college looking at the description.

I have had another look at the map, and zoomed in and out to see the parish named as you say. It all fits together now, and again, many thanks for sorting me out.
