Looking for details on a Joseph Massey, shoemaker, born Knutsford, 1796, lived at Church Street, Warrington, on 1841 Census.
Present at this census is son William born 1824, daughters Mary born 1828, Martha born 1833. and other daughter Hannah at Mere with grandparents.
1851 census shown as a lodger at Hopwood Street with HoH, James Taylor, (son in law).
age mistranscribed on some sites, actually 55. with daughter Mary wife of James Taylor, Martha aged 18 and unknown Jane Massey aged 19.
All his children give Latchford as birth location, on census. ---not found their baptisms.
Can anyone suggest alternatives?
thank you

Hi and welcome to the forum. I can't be positive that these are your family but Baptisms at St John the Baptist, Knutsford have the following Massey children, with parents Joseph and Esther
William Cash Massey 1822
Mary Massey 1823
Joseph Massey 1826
Francis Massey 1828
The marriage for the parents appear to be at Great Budworth, Joseph Massey, Bachelor to Esther Cash Spinster, both of that parish, on 2 October, 1820. Witnesses were John Cash and Robert Oulton.
St John the Baptist, Knutsford
1796 birth 30 March, baptism 22 May Joseph Massey son of William (cordwainer) and Hannah his wife of N Knutsford.
also to the same parents
James 1798
Martha 1801
Mary 1797
William Cash Massey 1822
Mary Massey 1823
Joseph Massey 1826
Francis Massey 1828

Re: Warrington residents baptism/burials c 1850
Thank you for that info.
I suspect the names are so common there are many possible families .
I know that one of his daughters is at Mere lodge at 1841 census with her grandparents . ( Cox)There is a also a marriage at Grappenhall that might fit for him. 'and a Hannah Taylor
What I cannot work out is where if they did live at Latchford at that period where are the possible baptisms might be. Are there alternatives to the Parish church?
Thank you

Your best bet to check through is Findmypast which has a good set of Cheshire records. Either get a free trial or see if your local library has a subscription that you can use for free.

Re: Warrington residents baptism/burials c 1850
Thank you,
Been through FMP, Ancestry. Family Search Org. Of course not all records are on these sites. I think for Cheshire the Parish Registers computer list done by Liverpool university, is the best, but still with 15% missing yet.
I suppose that all the children may have been born in Latchford - as they all say-- but not baptised. But I thought at that time you still had to be on a parish register to qualify for poor relief- should the need apply. So not in anyone's interest to be missed .
I wondered about non conformist registers though, I am not sure, if they are all available , or that there were any in Latchford.
Its a puzzle to loose 4 children though.
I am not even sure of Joseph's burial, since he dosnt seem to appear after the 1851 census at Hopwood Street, Warrington.

There are RC and Non Conformist registers on FMP also.
It's possible that Latchford had it's own chapel, have you asked Cheshire Archives whether there is such a register that may not have been put online, I know I haven't come across one specifically for there.
