South Liverpool cemeteries

Post by JohnnyO »

Hi all, my grandfather is supposed to be buried with my grandmother in Kirkdale cemetery. I have been to visit the grave, but can only see her name, as the headstone has subsided.

I was in Liverpool today, so popped into the library and looked through the microfilm for Kirkdale in 1967, but no joy, so tried Everton and Anfield as well.

I ran out of time (and incurred a parking ticket in the process grr). Looking at the England and Wales death index, the district is Liverpool South, whereas the other family relatives were registered in Liverpool North.

Does this mean that he might be buried in Toxteth Park or Springwood instead, or any others?

Thanks,

John

It would seem that he may well be in Toxteth Park or possibly Allerton.

First off try here http://www.toxtethparkcemetery.co.uk/db ... search.htm

Thanks Mary, no sign of him in those records. I'll pop into Liverpool library in the week if I get a minute and have a look at the records for Toxteth Park and Allerton. He's got to be somewhere!

At that year, especially if you have the exact date, I would suggest checking the Liverpool Echo for a death entry as it may give details of the funeral.

I couldn't find anything online, so will have to pop into Liverpool library. I presume that they have historical records there from obituary and death notices.

I have found out though that my grandfather is definitely not buried in the same plot as my grandmother. If they lived in Aintree (off Longmoor Lane) where is it likely that they would have been cremated?

Thanks,

John

Anfield Crematorium Records on MF and there is an index at the front of each volume.

Success!! I was in Liverpool this evening and realised the library was open until 8pm, and popped in. Got the crematorium records for Anfield. It was only when I was cricking my neck sideways looking at the screen that the kind assistant came and rotated it for me :D. Newbie...

Anyway, found the record after 10 minutes of looking - there were a lot of cremations in Anfield. Silly I forgot to take a print, but at least its easy enough to find it next time I go back.

Thanks to all for their suggestions and assistance. That is both sets of grandparents accounted for

Wonderful! and I'm surprised one of the other readers didn't notice and advise, they are usually very helpful.
