I guess you have drawn a diagram of all this as I don't think I could get my head around it all in words!

I'm home!

I've found the paper copy of the essay I wrote in 2004 but haven't yet tried to find it on the PC as it will be somewhere amongst the documents moved from the PC before the present PC if you see what mean.

I had a quick read of it last night and it's quite interesting to see just what was available online at the time only the 1851 census and the IGI.

Will do some more ferreting but if I can't find it on the PC I could copy it and post it to you.

I have found I have the genealogy report and a basic tree on the computer but the actual essay I would need to post to you.

If you PM your email to me I will send you the report and tree and I will post you the essay if you wish.

Hilary,
Many, many thanks for emailing me the tree and report; have now had time to read and 'inwardly digest' all the information you found on the Balshaws of Altcar.
Re the Horridge girls - I have found poss baptisms for both at Winwick:-
Margaret 27.8.1817 - ma Ann Horridge, no pa mentioned, though on her marriage cert. she states him to be James.

Elizabeth 28.4.1822 - ma Ellen Horridge, no pa mentioned, though on her marriage cert. she states him to be Thomas.

In 1841 census Margaret was living with the Pye family, who had connections to Altcar.
My thoughts are that Margaret met her future husband due to the Pye family connections.
Elizabeth may have been a cousin of Margaret's, and she too met her future husband this way.
I haven't been able to find 1841 for Elizabeth, nor have I been able to find any connection between Margaret and Elizabeth.
Perhaps I should give the Horridge research a rest

Glenys
Have you come to any further conclusions from Hilary's info? I have tried to map it out but not succeeded. I suspect a lot of the Ancestry gen, like being buried before dying!

Noticing Brian's name interest in the December journal, I contacted him and offered to help, as I have been researching my husband's ancestry in Altcar - managed to get back to early 1700's. Several times I had found a Balshaw female marrying into one or other of my husband's clan, so I thought I could help him.

I already had some of the Balshaw info which Hilary was so kind to share with me, some I hadn't....................not an easy clan to research!!

My thoughts re the Horridge girls, is that they could possibly have been cousins, but I haven't been able to find much out about them, other than their baptisms. (see my posting 7.2.16).
