My Varley family

Thanks for your help on a previous post. I have made good progress BUT.
Joseph Varley (no birth found, but around 1781 from his burial.) married Margaret Atkinson in Kendal Westmoreland. 11 January 1807. Cannot find a birth for Margaret either, but about the same as Joseph, (I suppose)
They moved to Liverpool between 1809 and 1810. My Samuel was born 1809 in Kendal and his brother Joseph born 1810 in Liverpool. Joseph was some form of Leather finisher or currier.
Unfortunately Joseph died Nov 1810 at Dickinson St. and was buried at St John's. His son Joseph was baptised 10 Feb 1811 at St Peter's and the register says father Late Joseph Varlow and mother Margaret formerly Atkinson. (Very helpful) At this point they lived in Vauxhall Rd. Margaret remarried on 10 Feb 1812, to Henry Weigh, a cooper, at St Peter's. They had 2 children that I can find Thomas 1813 and William 1815. Thomas died 1814 (Plumb St) and his father in 1816 (Cockspur St), both buried St John's (I think).
Poor Margaret. In 6 years she has lost 2 husbands and at least 1 son.
I cannot find any further trace of her sons Joseph Varley or William Weigh (Way). I think Margaret may have died in 1820 called Margaret Way, buried St Mary's Edge Hill.
If this was her death, what would have happened to Samuel and Joseph Varley (sometimes Varlow) and William Weigh (sometimes Way) I would appreciate help with this and the births of Joseph and Margaret in c 1781.

Thanks for that Tina, much appreciated. Has any one any idea what happened to him. I know his brother Thomas died in 1814.

So sad little Thomas died as an infant, another little angel.
Confirmed Henry Weigh 32 yrs buried at St John's in Anx.
You have found Samuel Varley tailor in 1841 as Darley right? he's 30 and Ann is 25, ages rounded off.

Samuel and his 2nd wife Elizabeth are my great x 2 grandparents. He had 6 children altogether and only one lived beyond 4 years old. That and his parents early deaths he must have had a very sad life.

Has any one any idea what might have happened to the children if Margarte died while they were still young.?

I suppose if there was a wicked stepfather who didn't take to children who were not his, he might have placed them in either the workhouse or a school.

Thanks Mary. The step father died within 4 years of marrying Margaret. Leaving her with at least 1 Varley Child , my Greatx2 grandfather, and 1 Weigh child (Possibly). I think Margaret might have died in 1820, (buried 1 August St Mary's Edge Hill, surname Way, abode Moss St.)
Any Ideas how I can find him about this time??

I have Anx but not FMP or anything else.

Is it possible to find extra information about the burial of Margaret Way 1820 so I can check to see if it is the correct Margaret. Would the record office help?? Would children be sent on their own to the work house. If so where can I see records?? Samuel ended up as a tailor and weaver, could he have learnt this at the work house?? When were children sent to Canada, Australia etc?? Thanks

Findmypast may be available at a local library although I don't often find that it has more Liverpool records than Ancestry.

It's possible that the children were placed into the workhouse as there were no other relatives nearby, they were only young weren't they. An industrial school often taught children a trade, or else placed them with somebody who may have taught them.

There was only a short period when burial details included more information about parents, and this didn't last very long.

I believe "home children" would have been sent to other countries at a much later date, generally it would have been criminals.

There may be some details at the Record Office about workhouse or school records, an email to ask them to check might be more helpful than the online catalogue.

Hope you see this. I have added it to my previous post. I would like to rum a few things past you all.
Still chasing Margaret Atkinson (Great x 3 grandmother). I may have found a 3rd marriage for her.
1833 At St Paul's Liverpool to Joseph Tickle. She was a widow and he was a millwright. It is on Lancs OPC as Margaret Whey. BUT she signed as Margaret Weigh. No abode given.
I have found a Margaret Tickle in 1841 census, born out of county, with lots of children transcribed as another surname. I don't think they are hers , as there are catholic baptisms at St Mary's with correct names and dob for the oldest 4 . Father Joseph, mother Elizabeth. This was in Clement St off Vauxhall rd. There is a catholic burial for Eliz. Tickle 28 Jan 1833 at St Nicks. So that seems ok. There is a death for Joseph Tickle in 1841. April 20 also at St Nicks and address is given as Clement St , which is the same as the 1841 census. So that ties in.
There is a death for Margaret Tickle in 1846 also at St Nicks, 27 Sep. Age is correct for 1783 birth, address Lambert St , which is where her son Samuel Varley was living in 1841 census. So I think I may have cracked it.
What do you think?
Can any one find Samuel in a directory between 1841 and 1851, he was a tailor.

ps Just found out that Joseph and Elizabeth were buried at St Nicholas Cathoic Chapel. Is this the same as St Nicks??

Your findings seem to fit well! Can't fault the Whey, obviously somebody's best guess, good match with the address.

Thanks for that Barbara. I have not had another relies from that area, so need all the help I can get. I phoned the Kendal Records Office and a lovely man called Max had sorted the records out even before I had confirmed that I wanted them. It is costing £14 for 3 certificated in the post.
People involved in the family history seem to all be lovely and go that extra mile. I had "met" such lovely people. (Yourself, Mary, Bert, Blue, the late Dickie Sam and all the others on this site.
