More memories of Palmyra. We used a large room on the right side of the ground floor for very elementary PE, but the classrooms were on the first floor, and possibly a second floor.
The exotic scents wafted around, probably from rooms on the ground floor, and perhaps the outbuildings. Mr Ford was someone mysterious, linked to the scents. I did not know about polishes etc.
There can be few former pupils left now. My elder sister is one but she has not lived in Liverpool for over 50years, but I will ask if she knows of others. One became a High Court Judge, but I think died recently.

Re: Palmyra.
Re William Edward Ford owner of Palmyra Laboratories and "Uncle Bill" to me. I was excited to see Dave's post, as Valerie --(your sister Dave) was my "best friend" many years ago when we arttended Park Rd Congregational Sunday School together in the 40's and our families became friends. We spent many happy hours together in the St Mary's Road House and enjoyed weekends at your parent's holiday bungalow near Chirk. Just before you were born Valerie dressed up their pet dog " Flighty" with a baby's bonnet and took the pram up to a local hardware shop pretending that you were in the pram. The shop owner had a fright when she came to look at you! We also celebrated VE day with the family in your father's car in Liverpool opposite St George's hall. What a night that was! Somehow we lost touch and I heard that Auntie Ruth, you and Valerie had emigrated to Australia. I never knew if this was true but I have unsuccessfully tried to find Valerie via the internet. Your post here has given me hope. I do hope you see this.My username is ValsPal. She would remember me as Shirley from Crossvale Road, Huyton with Roby.DFord wrote:I have just come across this post and am very interested to see the information on Palmyra. My father, William Edward Ford owned Palmyra Laboratories, the perfume factory and also Seftonian Laboratories, the polish factory which was apparently on the same site. I was aware that the house used to be owned by Waring & Gillows, and also by William McKerrow. I was not aware that part of it was a school at the same time as the perfume factory was there. I thought the school was across the road. I will ask my sister if she remembers this but in the meantime would be very interested in anything that is known about the house. My father died in 1955 when I was only four so I know very little. My mother believed that the house/land was bought by Tizer after the companies went into liquidation.
Thanks for any information.
Dave
Re:
Re Palmyra, I have just posted a reply to David Ford, son of the above mentioned Mr Ford. He and his wife Ruth and daughter Valerie were family friends of ours. We lost touch and I heard that after Dave was born and "Uncle Bill" had died they emigrated to Australia. I have hoped for years that I might one day find Valerie, Dave's sister, and I noticed he had referred to her in a post regarding the Palmyra topic.( Incidentally, during the war my mother made boxes for the perfume by sticking the cut-outs together with a warm iron.) I have only just joined this forum and get the impression that Dave Ford is not a regular on it. Is there any way I can find him again if he doesn't see my post? Please help if you can.daggers wrote:More memories of Palmyra. Hi and welcome to the Forum.
Unfortunately Dford wasn't a member of the forum for very long and didn't join the Society so we have no contact details for him.
Investigating some Facebook contacts may prove lucky for you.
