Alice LEAY (later BARTON & HALLIWELL) born Liverpool 1866

Post by plimmerian »

She was baptised 26 Aug 1866 at Liverpool St Michael, daughter of James and Jane LEAY.

In 1871 she was living in Bromborough, Cheshire but by 1881 she is a student scholar in Wavertree.

By 1884 she has married Benjamin BARTON at Bromborough St Barnabas and becomes his widow by 1891, living with parents in Bromborough.

She appears to marry William HALLIWELL in 1897 at North Meols St Cuthbert and living at 54 Cambridge Road, Southport in 1901.

Her HALLIWELL off spring appear to have made a life for themselves in Canada and Australia. I wonder if she went with them?

Her BARTON daughters appear to end their days in Cheshire while her BARTON son ends his days in Lancashire!

A tricky branch to follow!

Perhaps the Electoral Registers for the time might be helpful, do you know how long she remained at Cambridge Road, Southport? I think you would find them and Trade/Street directories at Crosby library.

Could you give the reference for the 1901 census.

There's a second Attestation, dated, 22 June 1916.

Aubrey declares he previously served with the 73rd Royal Highlanders of Canada, his next of kin, Hilda Duckworth, Marlowe Rd, Lisgard, (Liscard) Cheshire.

May suggest Alice died between, September 25, 1915, / June 22, 1916.

Great going Bert.

She's not at that address in 1938/9. Could she have moved to the Wirral, the only Alice Halliwell in the 1938 directory is at 48 Withert Avenue, Higher Bebington, who was born in 1887, so obviously wrong.

Eric Halliwell and Conrad T Barton left Southampton in 1921 for Sydney, Australia.

Still not located the family in 1911 but this might be Leonora Edmundson:

Thanks for all the extra finds and research - much appreciated!

thank you for those - great finds and a new shoot to the branch - fantastic!

I'd tried every combo lookin in 1911 and they never showed up - I don't understand it sometimes, when Alice clearly should have come up in the hints And when those nothing like show up there, baffles me!

thanks again and for filling in the gaps! :D
