HARRISON (nee LANE) mystery

Post by plimmerian »

Nellie LANE was born 03 Dec 1898 at 2 Canal Street, Earlestown (Newton in Makerfield) and was baptised 11 Dec 1898 at St John the Baptist, Earlestown (daughter of John and Ethel Annie LANE)

She married Arthur HARRISON on 22 April 1916 at Warrington Register Office - both of 38 Lawrence Street, Earlestown

I find Arthur in 1911 at his brother's household of 8 Rydal St, Newton le Willows, Lancashire (he born Leeds c1887) tracking him down in Yorkshire finds a birth date of 02 January 1887 and a baptism of 02 Feb 1887 at St Simon, Leeds

(Their only known child to survive childhood was Florrie HARRISON who married George Arthur SLINN in 1942)

I have yet to find their death and burial details but I'm hoping to find the missing details in time!

They are in Newton-le-Willows UD in the 1939 register. Per the transcription index, Arthur has a birth year 1884 and Nellie 1896.

Thanks for those - it's like they just evaporated off the face of the earth - nothing in death records matches anything close! :?

Have you checked these out? They are from the St. Helens Deceased Person Search. For more details you would need to contact the address on the website

Newton le Willows Cemetery Grave A 2099
Arthur Harrison buried 4/03/1959 69 years
Nellie Harrison buried 10/03/1969 73 years

The ages are only as good as the age remembered by the person who registered the death.

Have you actually checked as these seem very coincidental to me and if if was Arthur LEWIS Harrison I would have have thought the middle name would have been included.

Nellie's aunty, Emily LANE married Thomas SIMM but she died in Feb 1911. Leonard was one of Emily and Thomas' off spring!

Nellie's uncle, William James LANE married Thomas' sister Mary Ellen SIMM!

I think someone took a picture of the Harrison grave and it said Arthur Lewis Harrison on the stone, if memory serves me right my Nan said that wasn't ours!

On the 1911 census too Richard HOLT has been transcribed as LANE, who I think is Ethel's brother just listed as a boarder!

I wonder now if they were cremated and their birth years were wildly out!

Maybe a case of order a certificate and hope for the best! Even been suggested maybe a death in Derbyshire near where her sister Vera Sellers ended her days but again the dates don't match!

Thanks for all your help! 8)

Sorry to remove those details but if she is still living she may not appreciate her details being posted publicly.

I think your next move would need to be to check Electoral Registers to see how long Arthur lived at that address, that might narrow down the date of death.

Just an update:

Pure guess work and taking a gamble provided me with the death certificate:
Arthur Harrison, died on 20 Jan 1961, at ** Oakley Avenue, Barking, Essex - his son in law Slinn was the informant.

Mrs Slinn, daughter of Arthur and Nellie appears on her uncle Sellers death certificate in the 1990s, at an address in Derbyshire - I found that out today too.

I can't keep up with them moving about so much, now I know where I get it from!
