Missing Martha.....

Post by BarbaraW »

I can find Martha Pritchard born c 1839 in Liverpool and living with her parents John (book-keeper) and Maria in Feather Court then all over Vauxhall and Everton. I have found her in every census always as a widow with the same maiden name accumulating children along the way, all except the one that might have proven more useful because of the extra questions on marriage and births, the 1911 census.

However I just cannot find her using all kinds of ways. I found a death in the 4th Q of 1911 which I assume must be her but I cannot find her anywhere on 2nd April, census day, I wonder if she was one of those with just initials in the workhouse or the workhouse hospital? :?

Maybe she finally found a husband but I can't find a marriage either.........

Have you seen the Martha Pritchard aged 72 lodging with a Mr & Mrs Wm Hy Lindop at 7, Priory Street, Everton in 1911? Her place of birth is shown as Holywell, Flint, but Mr Lindop could have got that wrong.

Hhhmmm RT I did see that but dismissed it because of the place of birth and her being single........well I'd sooner that her landlord got it wrong than she ended up in the dreaded workhouse...... but it's not an enumerator error where he got back to the "office" and got muddled up trying to make sense of all these records he'd collected but one where she must have actually told somebody a complete porkie, then again as she has always called herself a widow with no sign of any marriage anything is possible!!

Hi You've found her in every census as a widow, how about giving us details of 1851, was she with her parents?
Her sister Eliza from 1841 baptism is in Familyhistory but doesn't give mother's maiden name and I couldn't find a marriage for John.
Cheers

Hi Tina thanks for that baptism, I hadn't found it before, I've only been with Anc for a few months now and am slowly piecing it all back together after a lay off of 10 years with just a little dip in the pond now and again in all that time. :o

In 1851 Martha has two sisters Maria and Ann who are both at home with their parents John and Maria, also in the same household are some Atherton family members. HO107/2176/422/page 46.

Martha is a servant (and niece) with some other Atherton's William and Mary and their 2 children, Mary and Martha. HO107/2177/606/page 54.
