1939 census

Post by Sue H »

Just a thought there's going to be a lot of mistakes with this census. Also when you buy you're bit it states it's yours for keeps.....the hand written copy contains others in the chose road/street would it be viable to offer copies to other in the group whose interests are in these roads as well...... like the birth/death certificates we have. Members only perks. Just a thought x :?

If there were enough offers the webmaster could put these in the new Members Area of our website, an ideal subject to keep for members only.

If you are able to copy and paste the wording that says it's yours for ever, we'd be glad of a look at it, just to ensure we wouldn't be contravening FMP's rules, they are a bit of a stickler for copyright protection.

We need to ensure we are't breaking copyright before we go ahead. Looking into things.

The way the free search can be manipulated at the moment there's no need to collect surplus information. Most of the available information can be accessed free on FMP.

You use the search to find a person. You can then work out their date of birth, address and other household members' names through the search. For address searches use *road, *street, G* street, Gr* street etc.

For dates of birth find the month first use 01, 02 etc. Same with the date use 01, 02 etc.

You can work out the occupation in the same way as the address by going through the alphabet or by trying known family occupations.

I don't think the images can be passed on like certificates issued by the GRO. Sharing the images would involve copying of some sort and I think the society would get into trouble if it provided a facility for sharing records from the 1939 Register.

There may be a way if we compile a database rather than offering images, at this stage I think it's too early to suggest that this would be viable as many people, you and I included, are using free searches to their best advantage rather than purchasing the image.
