Thank you Bertie, so that clears that up
So the children born alive must have been registered right? How do I go about finding the names of the missing 4 children? As I said previously I can see some "likely's" on the IGI but with such scant info it's too hard to be sure with common names.
The others were christened at 3 churches, St Peter's Everton, All Saints and St Peter's Liverpool.
Hmmmm maybe I should pick up the likely's and try and find out which church it is on the IGI by finding the batch number things and then going through the microfilms at the LRO relating to each church.
Just another thing, I could have sworn I saw my grandmother Ethel Pritchard christened at St Peter's in 1901 on the IGI but I was on my works tablet and didn't pay much attention as I figured I would look later than night on my laptop but search as I might it's not coming up now. A bit of a weird question but does the data on there change? I'm sure I've heard of this before somewhere??

It doesn't really matter as I have her birth certificate, it just seems a bit odd.......

Re: Family Search or the IGI
Have all the children you have found been registered and what are their names and year of birth?

Re: Family Search or the IGI
I imagine that the reason the St Peter baptisms stopped part way through 1901 is because that was the end of the register.
It could be the case that the later registers are on film at the Liverpool Record Office or have not yet been filmed and you have to look at the originals. Also Ancestry was perhaps only given permission to film up to the end of that particular register.

Re: Family Search or the IGI
For those Everton addresses I would search in this order:-
Everton
Anfield
Kirkdale
West Derby
My Atkinsons had lost 4 children by 1911. Baptisms couldn't locate them. I used the GRO certificate search method. I looked at first names likely to be used by the family and looked at the birth and death indexes. I picked a possible name. By ordering without the birth index details and specifying who the parents must be and where they should live I only received correct birth certificates. I managed to get three of the four children's birth certificates.

Re: Family Search or the IGI
Thank you Blue, I will go in that order when looking at the burial registers.
I really can't afford to buy all these birth and death certificates but would just like to tick them all off if possible. I'm quite happy with the baptism registers off Ancestry and any burials I can find online if I'm lucky.
John PRITCHARD and Mary Ellen BROWN were married at All Saints Church on 25 Dec 1883. He is described at various times as a Labourer and in later years a warehouseman or a wine warehouseman. Those I dismissed off the IGI were one man who was a Gas Fitter and others that seemed to be out of area??
The first child is born in November 1885 so I did a search for any other likelies as that seemed a long time until the first born, there is a John born in early December 1883 but as the parents names given are John and Mary Ellen Pritchard and they weren't married until some weeks later I dismissed this one too, but now I'm not so sure. Would they have had to prove they were married or could they just turn up and say they were?
The children I have found that I am almost certain are mine, well as certain as you can be with common names are:
Mary Ellen born 6 Nov 1885 bapt 29 Nov 1885 St Peters Everton
Thomas born 8 Mar 1887 bapt 6 Apr 1887 All Saints
Richard John born 8 May 1890 bapt 4 Jun 1890 St Peters Everton
Minnie born 29 Dec 1894 bapt 14 Jan 1895 St Peters Liverpool
Elizabeth born 30 Mar 1897 bapt 12 Apr 1897 ditto
Samuel born 31 Jul 1898 bapt 15 Aug 1898 ditto
May born 23 May 1900 bapt 04 May 1900 ditto
Ethel born 6 Nov 1901 bapt 18 Nov 1901 ditto
John born 1906 according to the 1911 census (no more details)
Ethel (my grandmother) doesn't appear on the IGI as I said this morning, and I knew I'd seen it somewhere last week, I just reviewed some notes and searched again and there it is on Ancestry under "select baptisms" which is making me wonder what else is missing from the IGI?
On the 1911 census they say they have 5 children still alive and they are all on this census with them as a family, Thomas, Richard John, Minnie, Ethel and young John.
These other children don't appear in any censuses only the 5 named and if it wasn't for *that* question on the 1911 census I wouldn't have had any idea of the existence of these others!!
