Hello
Can someone please help with the following:
I have just been looking at my Ancestry Tree and come accross what they have put down as my relationship to the people on it.
I have my grandfather's brother shown as, on one chart, as Grand Uncle and on another as Great Uncle.
Then again another relation shown as 2x Grt Uncle and also as Grt Grand Uncle.
Do you think that Grand and Great mean the same thing?
Thanks

Re: Query a Relationship to me
I understand it like this,
my fathers and mothers siblings are uncles and aunts,
my grandfathers/ mothers siblings are grand uncles and grand aunts,
my great grand fathers/mothers siblings are great grand uncles and great grand aunts
and so on, great, great, great, grand. Eventually its easier to put a figure X in front.
Always think Anc get it right.

Re: Query a Relationship to me
I do believe Great and Grand to be interchangeable, although "grand" seems more often used in America.

Thank you Mary A and Bertieone
Re: Query a Relationship to me
I agree with Mary, grand seems to be more American (like Anc) whilst we Brits are more likely to say great.
