DAVIDSON GEORGE

Post by Sue H »

Hi Everyone long time no see x

Well you know everyone says go back later with a fresh pair of eyes to solve a problem.....well I seem to have dug a bigger hole

It concerns GEORGE DAVIDSON 1894 to 1982 I think. George's parents (distinct names) WILLIAM UNSWORTH DAVIDSON and ANGNES JANE DELAVAND DAVIDSON. He was born 17 Nov 1894 and baptised 13 Dec 1894 in St Peters Liverpool 283 PET/2/94

So far so good.

I have the family in 1901 and 1911 with aunts and uncles. Their parents are dead father 1904 mother 1906.

Then I find another GEORGE DAVIDSON born 5th March 1897 baptism 14th June 1897 same parent names once again St Peters Liverpool 283 PET/2/96

The problem is I am looking for JOSEPH DAVIDSON born 1897. I have him with his family in 1901 and his brother in 1911 staying with an Auntie.

My first instinct is that George Davidson 5th March 1897 should be Joseph Davidson. Could such a mistake have been made by the church ???

That's a strange one, but I think he must have made a mistake.

I notice the address is Hale Bank which I believe would be in Halton and it would seem logical to me that the registration may have been in the Prescot Registration District.

Births Jun 1897
Davidson Joseph Prescot 8b 637

whereas the only George in that year was in the March quarter (which still could have covered the date given in the baptism)
Davidson George Edward W. Derby 8b 538

To my mind this my be the wrong registration district, although somebody else might argue against this.

Good to see you back again.

I think the christening if George in 1897 is Joseph. Either the family got confused and said George or it was confusion on the part of the vicar. The other details are too precise for it not to be their son. To prove it definitely you would need Joseph's birth certificate to see if the date of birth is the same.

Both George and Joseph have their births registered in Prescot district for as Mary says Halebank was in that district. The older boy Archibald was living in Liverpool at his christening so presumably the family made the move sometime between his birth and the birth of George.
