Hi Tsumi,
The question is, did Harry Crawford, Book Keeper actually exist, perhaps made up to hide an illegitimate child. Mary Ann would want young Harry born 1890 to carry the Crawford name, therefore any father would have to be a Crawford. To class young Harry as an orphan, 1891, both parents would be deceased and I can't find a registered death for a Harry or Henry Crawford, 1889/91.

Thanks Bert for your very wise words,I am begining to wonder myself if Henry Crawford,Book keeper did exist having searched fruitlessly, but why wouldn,t she want him to carry her married name,Lawson, instead of her maiden name,or am I missing something. She did leave the registration of young Henry until 20th June, and it was herself who registered him.

Initial thoughts would be, how does one pass a child off as a Lawson if her husband died 4 years previous. If she was hoping to hide anything from the child as he grew older, giving him the Lawson name wouldn't work.

Re: Ardwick Square,Liverpool
Putting ourselves in her place and being ready to be asked the father's name, I can imagine she might have had some confusion, or maybe even not been too sure of the meaning of the question when asked about her previous name and just came out with what she was regularly known by. We've known strange answers to registrar's questions before, perhaps when quick thinking was needed to cover up a bit of a secret.

Hi Mary,Yes that sounds very much like what happened, she maybe wasn,t to well with the illness that killed her five months later, and had been dreading going to register the birth which was six weeks after his birth, poor soul. One good thing he did survive and appears to have married and had a child. Many thanks for your time and invaluable help, also thanks to everyone else ,pity we didn,t find Ann Eliza Lawson, but I live in hope sometime in the future she may turn up.Thanks everyone Tsumi.
