Does anyone know if there are RC confirmations for SFX for the 1880s at the Record Office? Anyone know if there are SFX school registers or anything to indicate when a child's family moved to Liverpool? Also wondering what street directories they have for the years 1882-1891.

Re: SFX Archives
Why do you ask on a Tuesday evening
could have asked all these questions today.
I thought there were yearly street directories for that period.
There are no confirmations for this church listed in the catalogue, just enter sfx into the search and it only comes up with baptisms and marriages.
I think the school registers might be under a different reference and you know how easy the catalogue is for searching anything other that a parish register
SFX is still a current church with regular open days during Heritage Week, a telephone call might provide some answers?

Re: SFX Archives
Hi Mary,
I was sitting in the garden enjoying the sunshine when as a typical genealogy addict I start getting ideas for getting more information
this is for some people researching Robert Tressell AKA Noonan who wrote the book The Ragged Trousered Philanthropists. I'm trying to give them some ideas about further research. Robert died in Liverpool in 1911 and is buried at Walton Park but he and his family lived in Liverpool when he was a young man. There's a gap between him living in London c1883 and him living in Everton and being sent to Walton prison in 1890 for housebreaking and larceny. His mother and step father had their funerals at SFX (they were living at 18 Chapel Place Liverpool c1891-96) and Robert had two younger step brothers with the surname Zumbuhl who might have attended SFX or been confirmed there which would give an indication of when the family came to Liverpool. The Zumbuhls are on Kelly's 1894 directory at 18 Chapel Place so previous directories would likely include that street.
Here are extracts from The Liverpool Mercury from 2 and 11 June 1890 about his court case:-

Re: SFX Archives
Yep I've seen Noonan's grave - or at least the place where his memorial stone has been placed, whether it is on the exact spot I'd be curious to know quite how they decided just where as the whole place is more or less unmarked and they probably took a best guess, but as it's been there for so long it will now be accepted as being the right place.
Presumably you have done the background searches for the Zumbuhl children so if you post their names and dates of birth and dates you expect they would have gone to SFX, I'll email the RO to see what they have available and try and check next week if I can book them.
The directories should be just available on microfilm.

Re: SFX Archives
Doing the maths the two younger step brothers could have been at SFX around the time we know the family were in Liverpool. I'm thinking now that they will be more likely to get what they want from the directories and possibly electoral rolls. The step father was on the London electoral roll last in 1883 so they could have been in Liverpool in 1884. Robert would have been 14 in 1884 he was born 18 April 1870 so he might appear on an SFX school register in 1884. He could be under the surname Croker his birth name, Noonan his mother's name or Zumbuhl his step father's name. I'd be interested to know if they have any records of children attending SFX in 1884 or 1885.

Reply from the RO
There are some confirmation records for St Xaviers – but they only cover 1849 – 1852 . As regards the school records – is it junior or senior school records you are interested in ? – as there are various volumes for each – some covering the period you want and some not .
So what year were the younger children born?
I've just asked them to reserve both for the years 1884 - 1890.

Re: SFX Archives
Hi Mary,
Sebastian Joseph Zumbuhl was born Q1 1876 and Leo Zumbuhl was born Q3 1878 so both these boys might have attended junior then senior school in the latter half of the 1880s. Robert if he attended senior school in Liverpool would have attended around 1884 or 1885. Possible years if they came to Liverpool c1884:-
Juniors
Sebastian Joseph Zumbuhl c1884-c1887
Leo Zumbuhl c1884-c1889
Seniors
Robert Zumbuhl or Noonan or Croker c1884-c1885
Sebastian Joseph Zumbuhl c1888-c1891
Leo Zumbuhl c1884-c1893
