Wargrave Emmanuel, Newton Le Willows
found this on another forum
"Just a note on burials at Wargrave, Emmanuel. The burial registers covering the years 1854 to 1892 are missing and no B.T.'s or other copies survive."
I wonder what happened to them?
Is that the end of the road for finding my ancestors buried there:
John HOUGHTON died 15 May 1892, aged 42, a greengrocer who died from injuries falling out of his cart the previous day in Earlestown, Lancashire
and his brother
Thomas HOUGHTON died 15 Nov 1875, aged 36, an iron driller at foundry who died from congestion of the lungs in Vulcan Village, Lancashire
their parents
George HOUGHTON died 29 January 1889 at Vulcan Village
Margaret HOUGHTON (nee ANDERTON) died 28 Sept 1888 at Vulcan Village
Does anyone know if MIs have been taken for this church?
Thanks!

If there are anything left they should have been deposited at St Helens library. The alternative is to check the obituaries in the local newspaper - also held at St Helens. The M.I.'s for Emmanuel have been recorded but again a lot of the stones are missing after some interesting landscaping in the early 1980's.

Sorry I missed read that part!
That's the trouble with Newton, the records are either in St Helens, Warrington or Wigan!

"...weekend (12th/13th September) is the Heritage Weekend and Emmanuel Church will be open for visitors on both days Sat/Sun from 2pm-4pm for tours, refreshments, family history enquiries, prayer, to light a candle, or just to sit for a while, all welcome"
found on their facebook page today if anyone is interested, not sure I will make it sadly!

Glad you have their Facebook Group, there may be somebody on there who might have local knowledge or be able to help/advise in some way.

Re: Wargrave Emmanuel, Newton Le Willows
I'm making a feeble attempt to photograph the headstones for the findagrave website, health, weather and sanity allowing !!!
The south side is like a bog - I'm sure I was sinking at one point - but then some youths started to gather, so like a coward I left! lol
It will be a slow process, as the new feature on their website, to upload pictures and transcribe later, appears to have a glitch! After spending over an hour up loading over 30 headstones, half of them were not there when I returned and some "Russian" ones, I'd never seen before, where there instead!
Keep on trying!

Send a message to our webmistress and ask her if there is enough server space for this project as it is a church within our area and valuable if it hasn't been done before.

From one of our Facebook members
" http://newton-le-willows.com/
All church records for Newton are at Leigh archives, (don't ask, that's what Hannah said when I asked why they were there). There's a thread on the newton site that has all the info off all the headstones.
The records for St Phillips aren't at Leigh. Hannah looked, but couldn't find anything about them. The Lady I spoke to from OPC, the other week, said something about them being in with St Johns."
Hope this might help you to further your quest, although I know there is nothing further on that site, I've asked for a link to the thread mentioned.
Since discovered that there is a problem with the above site and the owner is working on it, hopefully will let us know when it's fixed.

Re: Wargrave Emmanuel, Newton Le Willows
sorry didn't get back sooner but my health hasn't been great to continue with the project - have to wait until next year I'm afraid, to hopefully take some pics before they're all gone - there were a number that couldn't be accessed because of nature taking over too!
Thanks for keeping me posted!

Take care over the winter, stay wrapped up and no traipsing round cemeteries until the weather is warm and dry.
