Puskunigas Family

Post by Orinda »

Hello:
I am researching the Puskunigas family. Parents, Stanislaus and Annie. Lived at 17 Veron St. in Leigh. Looking for help related to their youngest child Anita Puskunigas born April 28,1936.

Two children placed in a orphanage when their Mother died in 1937. Older male children stayed
with their father, have no idea what happened to Anita. Trying to research this from Canada with
no real resources. Grandparents Vincent and Mary Puskunigas lived at 32 Margaret Street ,
possible she went to live with them.

Can anyone help?

Hi

Welcome to the forum. I've included a link below to show anyone trying to help you the previous research on this family elsewhere just so we don't duplicate what has already been covered:-

Hi and welcome to the forum.

As you are looking to come forward and find living people, we have some suggestions here http://forum.liverpool-genealogy.org.uk ... =14&t=8154

There are approximately three marriages of people with that surname, although not Anita, one in particular in 1923 for a Stanislaus Puskunigas to Annie Astrowski, these seem to be Anita's parents and also of another five children. It would be worth while trying to find marriages for some of these and make contact with descendants to discover if they have any information.

Just points arising from the link given by Blue above

You should by now have the marriage certificate so that you have a location for them.
If they lived and worked in the Manchester area it is possible that a Lancashire Forum (as opposed to South West Lancashire) may have more information for you.
Death certificates would also give you an address and name of informant, especially if this was a family member.
Addresses would allow you to search either Electoral Registers or trade/street directories.

Best place to check for these directories for Leigh would be Leigh Library, location and opening times here. https://www.wigan.gov.uk/Resident/Libra ... brary.aspx

Not possible to contact any family members. Family was estranged. All children of Puskunigas
family now deceased. Children of these families do not know anything. Only child remaining
who is Anita, no contact. Have no idea how to trace what has happened. Not
necessarily trying to find her. Just want to know really what happened when family split up.

Electoral Rolls

Post by Orinda »

Hello:
Some interesting information was sent to me re: electoral rolls of 1936 in Leigh. Annie Puskunigas was not living with her husband was living with another male. Anita Puskunigas
was born April 28/1936 listed on BMD. No mention on Birth Certificate of Father's occupation or surname of father on birth certificate. But Puskunigas was surname on BMD. Interesting.

I have merged these two posts so that the second isn't just a statement without relevance.

It would seem that Annie had parted from her husband, however as her legal name was Annie Puskunigas she would be entitled to call the child by this name.

It would be doubtful if you would ever know the truth as to whether the natural father would be Stanislaus or the other man, unless by a DNA test.
