Looking for help with William Charles Bailey
Looking for some help with William Charles Bailey. He also used just William Bailey. William Charles Bailey was married in 1919 to Eleanor Johnson. Just plain William Bailey died December 11, 1954 in Liverpool North. Lived at 74 Chester Road for many years. Both his marriage record and death record puts his birth at 1896 and his father is listed as William Bailey on his marriage record. I am trying to find out who his mother was and a birth record for him.
Please help! Richard
The marriage record states William Charles Bailey's father is William Bailey a laborer. Both Willaim C. Bailey and Eleanor Johnson lived at 35 Erskine street. Witnesses were Thomas Henry Wilson and Emma Johnson (Eleanor's sister).
They were married at St. Jude's Church, Parish of St. Jude Liverpool in the county of Lancashire.

Re: Looking for help with William Charles Bailey
Hi Richard and welcome,
There are a number of William Baileys bn abt 1896 in Liverpool in the 1901 census and in 1911. They include a number with a father William. Can you tell us his father's occupation from the marriage cert and the names of Bailey witnesses because this is a possible candidate?
Rest of post removed. Information incorrect.

Hi and welcome to the forum.
From the obituary in the newspaper there were a number of children to him and Eleanor and a few grandchildren. As you are in America have you been in contact with any who may have been closer to him and who might have had knowledge of some of his tales of his youth?

Re: Looking for help with William Charles Bailey
Last night a cousin found a phone number in a England for one of William C. Bailey's children. To our surprise Frank Bailey was still alive and is about 83 years old. He could not remember his grandparents names but he stated that his father had a brother who was a policeman in Guernsey. That started the cousin to remember stories her father told her as a child that the family had a Brittany connection. Anyway I went to Ancestry and looked for census records for a William (father ) and William (son) Bailey and found two records. One 1901 record for a William Bailey is from St. Peter Port, Guernsey with a birth that fit the time line of about 1895/1896. I could not find a 1911 census in Guernsey for this family.MaryA wrote:Hi and welcome to the forum.

Looking around a site for Guernsey policemen I found at one time in the 1970's the Chief Officer was Arthur Bailey.
Than I went to Family Search and found they have a micro film of birth records from Guernsey so I ordered it and it will be sent to my local Mormon library.
So...anybody out there got more ideas of this new Guernsey thread?

Re: Looking for help with William Charles Bailey
Might be a bit of a coincidence, but was looking for Baileys in Whit[e]field Road in 1911, can't be this one as it's neither South, nor South Liverpool but perhaps a cousin and perhaps the Guernsey Baileys moved nearby. Worth keeping on the back boiler for now anyway I suppose.

Re: Looking for help with William Charles Bailey
That doesn't leave a great deal of time - assuming that Elizabeth was the mother, for William to have either remarried and he/they move to Liverpool or move to Liverpool and remarried and died in whichever place. I don't think there is an appropriate marriage in Liverpool.
1911 states they were married 22 years, 4 children, 4 still living, so I think Eliza was the mother not stepmother.

Re: Looking for help with William Charles Bailey
Thanks for all the help! I am taking all is in but still no real connection to my 1895/1896 William Bailey son of William Bailey. The 1911 census shows 4 children for Eliza and William Bailey. The 1901 census shows 3. Any ideas on how to find the missing child's name?
Please keep the lines open.

Re: Looking for help with William Charles Bailey
Another idea...I heard there was a voter registration record for people who became of age.
My William Charles Bailey would be 18 years old about 1914/1915. When he got married in 1919 his address was 35 Erskine street, parish of St Jude's, county of Lancaster.
Can someone find my William Charles Bailey or just plain William Bailey in a voters registration record from 1915 to 1920?
Maybe with the 35 Erskine Street address.
Thanks

Re: Looking for help with William Charles Bailey
Can one find a voter by using just an address? Like if one searches the 35 Erskine Street address and see who is living there.
Re: Looking for help with William Charles Bailey
The Electoral register will give who was eligible to vote at addresses. As far as 35 Erskine St is concerned, at the time of the marriage was the home of the Johnsons. Its likely William Charles could have given that address for the Marriage Banns to be posted, had he lived in another Parish.
It would be interesting to see if he had any connection with 196 Whitefield Road, Everton, Liverpool.
