Gunner 51672 William Highton 1866-1920 Royal Artillery
William 1st. born Child of John & Catherine Highton (nee Dogherty ) He Joined the R.A. 19th Nov. 1885 a carter unmarried Age 19 and willing to serve for 12 Yrs. he was the son of my Gr Grandfather Grandad's eldest brother 1st Aug.1891 service extended to 12 yrs. 30 June 1897 re-engaged to complete service to 21 yrs. 16 Nov. 1906 discharged on completion of service Postings included
India 20 Sept.1887 - 29 Nov.1894 ,Halifax N.S.20 Sept.1902 - 10th May 1904,next of kin Wife Emily 38 Hampshire St Portsmouth
he was awarded a long service & good conduct medal and 4 good conduct Badges conduct Exemplary and a very handy man discharge address 180 Orwell Rd. Kirkdale his second wife's family details from Chelsea Pensioners list, 1901 census R.G.A. St. Helier Jersey age 34 wife Emily 32 Dau. Margaret Emily Louise 2 B. Millbrook Cornwall son George Sidney Elliott 4 mths. b.Jersey he married Emily Grist Sept q. 1887 at Portsea Island
1911 census has William Highton M.43 a night watchman b. Prescot ,Catherine Highton wife M.29 M. 4 yrs 1 child b. L'pool
1child b.L'pool Margaret 12 b. Millbrook George 10 B. Jersey Elsie Nay dau. 10 mths b. L'pool all at 74 Sessions Rd Kirkdale
Williams Father John Appears to be George Huyton or Highton & Mary Brown m. Altcar 1 Jan. 1833 John Bapt. 22 April 1837 Melling & George may be the son of John & Margaret b.27 Dec. 1811 bapt 26 Jan 1812 At Sephtonhe d. 1844 buried 19 Dec. at Melling his widow then M. Edward Elkin in 1851 can anyone confirm this Please ?

I'm not sure your post is in the correct part of the forum.
I am confused at the beginning you state William's father is John then at the end you say that William's father John appears to be George do you mean William 's grandfather?
You need take the research in bits
1. Do you have William's marriage certificates? If yes who is given as his father? If no you need to get them.
2. If you have confirmation that William's father is John you need a copy of John's marriage certificate which will give you his father.
3. If you have all the above and John's father is given as George you need to compare all the occupations to make sure you have the correct census for William and his father John in their younger days.
If you have the marriage certificates perhaps you could post them on here which will help people to help you. Also post the full information on the census including the reference details.
