Thanks Bert. The fact that her father is Edward instead of David is the reason I haven't found her anywhere in the 1881 and 1891.

So who is she or is there a slip of the pen twixt Church and GRO? Both names end in D so was someone more than a bit deaf?
Her marriage cert dd 21 Jan 1900 gives her age as 21 and her father as David Moseley, dock labourer. Home address 10 Galton Street. She married at St Nicholas. Is the church record online?

The marriage to Arthur Brady I can't find online.

Edward Moseley's daughter Ellen married Rev Robert Bewick in 1906, Trinity Chapel, Grove St, Liverpool. Decent info on tree for that.

Sadly no, will add it to a new list but no promises when the next visit to the RO will be as Help Desk taking a break now until 13th January.

Marriages Mar 1900: Brady, Arthur and Moseley, Ellen - Liverpool 8b 115
at Our Lady & St. Nicholas & St. Anne

So who is this Ellen then? Says she is born in Liverpool in 1901 and 1911 and her given YoB is 1879 and 1880 respectively. The marriage cert gives her Yob as 1879 and her death cert in 1927 gives 1881!

Could this surname be wrong? Could it actually be Morrissey? There's an Ellen Morrissey aged 11 living with parents David and Margaret at 7 Dublin Street in 1891. Mrs Margaret Morrissey is still at number 7 Dublin Street on Gore's Directory for 1911, Arthur and Ellen Brady were living at number 32 and my Great Grandfather Patrick Holland was at number 18!

That Morrissey name is a definite possible but how did it change on the marriage cert in 1900 and stick for 1901 and 1911?

Morrissey is looking good DS. I can see four Brady/Morrissey baptisms at St Augustine's for: David 1900, Jane 1902, Margaret 1904 and Ellen 1906.

Have you got the GRO copy of the marriage DS? Perhaps the Liverpool copy with original signatures will have a mark next to Ellen's name. The two surnames can sound similar.

In 1901 Arthur, Ellen and David are at House 5 in Court 4 in Upper William Street. There's a mistake on the identity of the baby it does say Maria, daughter and 5 months old but if you look at the word Maria it does say Maria but it looks a bit like David too so it might have been copied wrongly. Three children lost by 1911 Census these were: Ellen died 1906, Julia died 1909 and Michael died 1909. I found nine children born to Arthur and Ellen:-

1. David Brady born: 6 Dec 1900 baptised: 8 Dec 1900
2. Jane Brady born: 7 Dec 1902 baptised: 15 Dec 1902
3. Margaret Brady born: 29 May 1904 baptised: 4 Jun 1904
4. Ellen Brady born: 15 Jul 1906 baptised: 21 Jul 1906
5. Arthur Brady born: 1908
6. Julia Brady born: 1909 died: 1909
7. Michael Brady born: 1909 died 1909
8. Thomas Brady born: 1910 died: 1911
9. Christina Brady born: 1911/1912 died: 1912

Dublin Street is most famous for iconic photo shoots there by The Beatles in 1962 and by Bob Dylan in 1966.

Hi Blue,
Here's the GRO copy. Looks like all entries written in the same hand, probably when transcribed from the original. A good example of a major boo-boo that we come across when data was transcribed more than once before it got into the GRO Indexes.

From the baptisms you found Morrissey is certain to be the name not Moseley but David for Edward? Dark glasses and candlelight?

The other Arthur Brady the one born to Michael Brady and Mary Ferns on 3 Dec 1881 and baptised at St Anthony's on 12 Dec 1881 married Mary Ellen Thompson in 1908. This Arthur Brady and Mary Ellen Thompson his future wife are the witnesses to their siblings William Joseph Thompson and Mary Elizabeth Brady's marriage at St Anthony's on 2 June 1901. They probably married at St Anthony's themselves but the marriage records on Ancestry end at 1906. So we've definitely got the right one with the Arthur Brady son of Michael Brady and Jane Stewart who married Ellen Morrissey in 1900.

I had made a fairly safe assumption about having the right Arthur when I discovered the other AB's father was in the rubber business whereas 'my' Arthur's father was a fireman/stoker at a gas works. It was the Moseley name that had me bugged.
