Hoping to find baptisms for Michael Brady bn abt 1848 and Susan Brady bn about 1840, both in Liverpool, parents Michael Brady [bn Ireland] and Bridget ?? [bn Ireland].

The parents apparently married in Ireland and I am trying to find Bridget's maiden name without throwing a £9.25 'donation' at the GRO!

Hi Bert. Well, well.. that is very interesting. The Michael Brady bn 1848 is the g.father of 3 foster rellies to me and I know he died before 1871. He married 2x. First to Jane Stewart 8 Jun 1871 who died in 1882, then he married Mary Wood in 1889.

The first marriage produced Arthur Sydney Brady [13/09/1881 to 19/05/1929]. Arthur was in the MN and left his first wife Ellen Moseley [married her in 1900] sometime after 1911 and by 1922 was living with Gladys Moon by whom he had 3 children. Ellen died in 1927 and Arthur married Gladys in 1928. This couple had a son [bn 1922] and two daughters [bn 1924 and 1929] who became foster siblings to me when Gladys died in 1930. It's a bit of a saga!

So I wonder who the Ancestry tree belongs to? Possibly a descendant of one of at least 8 children Arthur and Ellen had together.

I can at least tack on a twig to the main branch of my Brady tree. But I would like to confirm that the mother Bridget was a McGuinness. Without a source note it would be chancy otherwise.

Can you see that marriage and confirm the father etc? There are a lot of John Bradys bn Cavan between 1829 and 1831!

The father is Michael Brady, 1853 St Nicholas, that's online.

The tree has Bridget McGuinness also, has her dying in the workhouse, 1872, buried at Walton, no birth cert etc.

Susan Brady's marriage, perhaps a clue here.

Also found a catholic burial for Bridget Brady, 1870, I'd lean more towards that one.

Me leaning that way too and the maiden name McGuinness looks to be correct. Just hope someone got a birth cert to confirm it. I'll use it with a TBC note.

You've probably forgotten these Bradys are my ancestors. I'm descended from John Brady. My tree is Holland Atkinson on Ancestry. I have Michael Brady born 1848's birth certificate don't buy it. The baptism already mentioned gives a different birth date but I think it is the right birth date. The birth certificate gives a later date probably because of lateness. Father is Michael Brady, mother is Bridget McGinnis or McGuinness, many spellings for this surname. See my website page for more information:-

Yes we have definitely corresponded about this Brady family. They appear to have come from the parish of Larah, near Stradone in County Cavan. Roots Ireland told me the Catholic records for Larah don't start until 1876:-

"The surname Brady is the third most common surname in County Cavan and the surname McGuinness though not so common, is found in a number of parishes throughout the county and not confined to a specific area. The parish of Larah is "The Home of The Bradys" where the surname is so common it is necessary to have an identifying nickname. The 1821 census returns for Larah parish has a Bridget McGuinness aged 4 years listed with her parents Matthew and Rose. Unfortunately there are only 16 parishes with surviving 1821 returns. The majority of church records do not commence until the mid to late 1800s. Catholic Church records for the parish of Larah do not commence until 1876. It would appear that your ancestors originated in a parish where records commenced too late to record them."
