RC priests late 1800s

Post by penstemon+5 »

I have a photo in a family album of a great uncle, who we were always told was a RC priest. He appears to be wearing a Fransisican habit, but without a cowl and the Fransiscans say they have no record of him.
Does anyone know how I can find out if he was a priest. He is either Joseph or James Edwards , last known address 63 Sackville St in 1901.

Hi and welcome to the forum.

I don't know if we would be able to help or not, but perhaps you could scan the photograph and post it on here to see if we may have some suggestions. Instructions how to do that here http://forum.liverpool-genealogy.org.uk ... =16&t=9817

I would also google for RC Seminaries, there are such as http://www.ukpriest.org/ which has various contact details on its site and they may be able to advise you where records would have been kept.

Alice Edwards married Andrew Raab in 1893. They appear to have had the twins and then the girl who died as a baby. Andrew died in 1897 and was buried in Ford cemetery on 12 December 1899.

Maybe the child became a priest under the name Raab or did their mother remarry and they took their step father's name. Either way where are the two boys in 1911?

Andrew's burial is recorded as Rabbi. There is a death for an Alice Rabb age 27 and children Edwards and Sarah both aged 0 years. All deaths recorded in 1896 with very close page numbers. The baptism for the twins says father Andrew so I think these are James and Joseph's mother and siblings.

Should have said I think the name might be Rabb not Raab. I wonder whether the boys are in a boarding school or home somewhere. They are not with Uncle Edwards in 1911 he is living alone.

I wonder where our poster got the 1901 address in Sackville Street from as a 'last-known-address'?
