22 December marks the centenary of the death of Maj.-Gen. Robert Charles Boileau Pemberton (1834-1914), the compiler of the 40 charts in this book, ed. and pub. by his son, the rev. Robert Pemberton, in 1923.
He established the origins of the name in Lancashire in the 13th century, and the book includes pedigrees of families in England, Boston (USA), Philadelphia and New Zealand. Copies are held by Lancashire Archives, Birmingham Public Libraries, the Libraries of the Universities of Oxford and Cambridge and the SoG.
In his preface, rev. Robert expressed the hope that someone would come forward to continue the work of editing the research notes left by his father, with a view to preparing more pedigrees for publication and perhaps linking them back to "the original Lancashire stock".
This seems never to have happened and the Pemberton Family Worldwide (pfww.org) is therefore attempting to continue this work.
May I ask descendants of the families, in particular those of the Major-General's, and anyone knowing the whereabouts of his research notes to contact me, either through the forum or directly at pembie2[at]hotmail.com Thank you.

Hi and welcome to the forum.
Did he have any other children except for Robert?
Is anybody aware whether Robert actually married and had children? or are you looking for cousins?
Have you also posted in a Cheshire forum or do you know whether Robert grew up in Lancashire?
Hope you have some more information that can be worked upon.
Edited to remove misleading information.

Re: PEMBERTON PEDIGREES: book pub. 1923
I should have said that the Major-General is not one of my ancestors.
He married twice, firstly to Alice Louisa Barrow in 1862. They had three daughters, Alice Evelyn McLeod Pemberton (1863), Catherine (1864) and Annie Gertrude (1866), and one son, Robert (1868), the editor of the Pedigrees. Alice Louisa died in 1868.
His second wife was Marguerite Ellen Brennan, whom he married in 1876. They had one son, Edward Gerald, born in 1877. Unfortunately, Marguerite died in the same year. When the Pedigrees were published in 1923, Edward was a Captain in the Warwickshire Yeomanry.
The rev. Robert, the editor, married Ethel Frances Arnould in 1894. He held appointments in Herefordshire, Warwickshire and Essex. They had two daughters, Ethel Vera, born 1895, and Katharine Frances, born 1897. So far as I am aware, Ethel never married. She obtained probate of her father's Will in 1940 (I have requested a copy). Katharine married Joshua Burn in 1928.
Edward married Yolande Constance Dietz in 1902, and they had one child, John Boileau Pemberton, in 1903. I believe that John married Alice Hicks in 1934.
Thanks for the Cheshire suggestion. The book contains charts of Cheshire families, and I wiil supply details if anyone is interested.
Bert Pemberton.

It turns out that the Major-General's research notes are after all at the SoG--8 boxes of them!
The Pemberton Family Worldwide is still keen to make contact with the families included in the book: an advertisement will appear in the next three issues of Family Tree Magazine.
