My mother's family has its roots in cheshire, Middlewich, to be precise. I've been able to trace it back to the late 16th Century, lucky because the name is Jackson!
In the early 19th Century, my great great grandfather, William Jackson (1805-1876) started merchandising in Liverpool and married at St Nicholas Church in 1829 Elizabeth Hughes daughter of Lt Thomas Hughes and his wife Sarah Johnson. He settled in the village of Birkenhead and with other fortunate souls laid the foundations of the present Town.
The name Hughes, like Jackson, is very common, but I have been able to establish through wills, that Elizabeth's aunt, Maria Hughes, married a charles Sutton, Bookkeeper - their descendants in the female line, the Bocquets, thrive to this day. I have yet to establish more about Thomas Hughes and his lineage and would welcome some ideas or points of contact to try to establish a more fleshed out pedigree of this family, be it immediate or collateral descendants. i know, for instance, that Elizabeth Hughes had siblings, but i cannot find them in registers. I was wondering if the use of a local researcher might help. I do have a lot of disparate bits of information, like, for instance, that these Hughes were of the same family as those of Kinmel, aka the Barons Dinorben, but it is all in the air! Can anyone suggest anything?
