Haven't noticed any flashing icons! What 'machine' are you viewing on? A PC, a phone etc? And what browser are you using?

Lap top. They don't all "flash" Perhaps flash is the wrong description.
On Liverpool and south west family history. Ford cemetery topic and cursive writing topic are flashing. Or at least getting smaller and bigger.

Sounds like a browser 'problem' to me. Assuming you are using Internet Explorer try viewing the sites via another browser such a FireFox or Chrome, both freebie downloads.

thanks Dickie Sam. I am using internet explorer. I don't think it could be this as they don't all flash. I also do GCSE marking on line and have to use internet explorer for that.
Are you saying that yours don't flash :?

I think Erika might have the answer. I also get this "flashing" and when I checked I found it was happening where there was more than one page to the post.

Open up the Liverpool Board and Scroll down to the bottom, it gives the legend of all the icons. If it flashes "self coloured" then it's a popular topic, if it flashes orange then it's a popular topic with a post that you haven't read.

The other icons are listed too.

I had thought of a humorous response... basically to do with a Macintosh! :D

But, seriously, I had never really took any notice of those small icons flashing before MaryA pointed me to them in her response to you! Possibly because my setup on the forum is such that I am notified of all new topic postings and am notified of all responses to those posts unless I specifically 'Unsubscribe' from a topic.

I am sure MaryA will be along soon to correct me if I am wrong...

As far as I am aware you should be automatically notified of a response to any new topic you have posted. To be notified of posts to other areas of the Forum such as 'Off Topic' or 'Military' click the Subscribe Forum button on the left of the screen above the blue headings band where Topics, Author, Replies, Views and Last post appear. It is directly beneath the New Topic button.

You can be notified in the way DS has said for topics/boards that you haven't posted on.

To be notified for topics that you have posted on go to top of page - User Control Panel >
Left Column - Board Preferences> Edit Posting Defaults, where you will see "Notify me upon replies by default:" which you can set as Yes or No, whichever you please.

Thank you all :D
I have now sorted how to be told of replies to topics that I have either posted or answered. That will be a great help and stop me upsetting people by not answering them promptly. THANK YOU :)
