Post by Hans Gangsto »

On behalf of his descendants, I am trying to locate from where in Norway, Christopher Christopherson, emigrated to Liverpool. I have found some important information about him and his Family, but the crucial piece of information is his date of birth. Below is what I have found, and I would highly appreciate if anyone could assist With this Project.
"Christoffer Christofferson, born 0 ___ 1855 in Norway, died 13 nov 1904 in Toxteth Park,Lancashire,England.(Source http://www.toxtethparkcemetery.co.uk) , At their marriage, Mary Jane Graham is listed as 26 year old sphinster, residing av 26 Northumberland Street, father's name Robert Graham ( deceased). Father's profession Master Mariner.
Christoffer Christofferson is listed as 27 year old, mariner, residing at 26 Northumberland Stret, father Christoffer Christofferson. Father's profession Farmer.
In the 1891 England census, Christopher Christopherson (36) and Mary Jane (35) are living with their children at Toxteth Park,Lancashire,England.
At the same address is Salina Graham(60). She is listed as Mary Jane's mother. In this census Christopher's place of birth is listed as "Bergan, Norway" and he is living at Toxteth Park. (Bergan could be Bergen, Norway)
In the 1901 England census, Christopher Christopherson is listed as 46 year old, dock labourer, born in Norway.(Birth place Norway Foreign subject). Mary J 45 year old, born in Cumberland.
In the 1911 England census, Mary Jane Christopherson, widow, is listed as born in 1857 in Cumberland, living with her three children; Joseph, Edith and Margaret in Toxteth Park, at 55 Pecksniff Street in Liverpool. He married Mary Jane Graham, 31 mai 1882 in St.John the baptist Church,Lancashire, born 0 ___ 1856 in Cumberland,England. , Mary: Mary Jane Graham's father is listed as Robert Graham on the marriage certificate.
One suitable candidate for Mary Jane is Mary Jane Graham, born 10. oct 1858 in Norton by Malton,York,England, parents Robert Graham and Henrietta Rebecca Graham.
Children:
i. Mary Jane Christopherson, born 0 ___ 1881 in Liverpool,Lancashire, England, died 0 ___ 1885 in Liverpool,Lancashire, England, buried 7 mar 1885 on Barrow-In-Furness Borough Cemetery. This seem to be the first born child of Christopher and Mary Jane.

Found a little on the Graham's

1861 census 57 Milford Street Kirkdale Liverpool
James McComb 38 porter born Ireland
Eliza McComb 36 James's wife also born Ireland
Selena Graham wife's sister 37 born Ireland
Robert Graham brother in law 34 mate seaman born Whitehaven Cumberland
Mary Jane Graham niece 8 born Whitehaven Cumberland
James McComb son 5 born Whitehaven Cumberland
David McComb son 1 born Liverpool

In 1851 Selina Graham is a cook living in Whitehaven she is stated to be married and born in Ireland. I think she probably married in Whitehaven so will have a look now.

Hi Hans, have you looked in the Mormons site familysearch?
They have records in there from Norway.
Don't think your Mary Jane born in Yorkshire has anything to do with your search.
Good luck

Hi and welcome to the forum.

Mary Jane is fairly consistent with her birthplace being Cumberland, in particular Whitehaven, so I would agree with Tina that the Mary Jane born Yorkshire is incorrect.

There are a couple of possible entries that might be the birth of your Mary Jane and I would suggest that you contact the GRO www.gro.gov.uk where you can order a certificate online at a cost of £9.25, but where you should answer NO to the question "Is the GRO reference known" and then you would be able to give the information regarding the parents that you have, they will then check for the correct details before sending you the certificate.

Thanks a lot for responding to my Query regarding Christopher Christopherson.
The main Object here is to find the date of birth of Christopher, to identify the right person in Norway, as this is fairly common name.
I have been through the http://www.familysearch.org website, looking for Clues to the right Christopher, but as I have no date of birth, no exact match has been possible.
The 1861 census Family fits, so this is most likely the right Family.
I tend to agree that the possible candidate of Mary Jane born in Yorkshire is not the right one.
For the Graham side, I will file the submitted suggestions, for future use, if we decide to proceed onwards also on this side.
Hope anyone will be able to come up With a date of birth for Christopher.:-)
Regards
Hans
