Just wondered if anyone knows anything about this church. I'm guessing it was evangelical and I understand it was in Tuebrook. My father attended the sunday school there in 1926.
I'm not really sure why but I think I remember my father saying his mother was connected with the Orange Lodge at some point (his oldest brother was called George Wise after the evangelical preacher) and I wondered if this sunday school might have been appropriate for a family with Orange Lodge tendencies. My grandparents separated mid 1920s so my fatehr and his mother had only just moved to Tuebrook about 1926.
Any ideas? A bit of a stab in the dark this one.

A bit of googling shows the church has a website. It appears that it is and was founded as part of the Liverpool City Mission. This in turn was started by the SPCK a society for promoting Christian knowledge.
Googling Liverpool City Mission you will find a history of the Mission. Reading about it shows that they then and now do a lot to help people.
I think but need to check it that the SPCK had links to the Church of England.
I've just checked and the SPCK is the oldest Anglican Missionary society founded 1698 and the Liverpool City Mission was founded in the late 1820s.
PS I remember older relatives and acquaintances telling me that they went to different Sunday Schools depending on which had the best outings and parties!

Hi, Dickisam and Mary - absolutely no reason at all why I had posted my message on the military forum! Didn't even realise I had until I saw your message so thanks, Mary, for moving it to its proper place!
As for the comment about going to the sunay school with the best outings, I could see that fitting in with my dad's idea of religion!
Not so promising on the Orange Lodge link though, I would have thought. I would have expected people to be a little more committed to that movement but I'll follow up the website details for the Mission.
