Latin first name - Gualteri?

Post by MaryA »

Hi all, have come across an RC marriage where the father is named as Gualteri. I have googled, can anybody confirm that this is likely to be Walter? Has anybody come across this and confirmed in their own researches, perhaps by previous censuses?

I don't think I can do this myself as I believe the father would have been in Ireland - no censuses as this was 1865.

Hi Mary,

I hope this is of some help, the translation of Walter to Latin is dependant on his role at the marriage.

If the father was in Ireland he might be found on Griffith's or the Irish death indexes.

Yes thanks Blue, something to look into, although I'm finding a lot more of this family moved to Liverpool and married here, don't know if they left the parents behind but in some cases they came too, but some returned to Ireland to die as there are burials there.
