Hi Katie,

The 1911 directory only has a shopkeeper at number 140. I would expect the 1914 directory would probably be useless too in its coverage of the street.

Hi Katie

Have checked the 1914 and the only one listed in Arlington Street is the shop.

They are a few John Blackburns listed, but if you knew an occupation maybe it could help.
Let me know if you need me to look up some of them

Thanks Erica his father was a Carter.

Gets more weird think we need Daggers input. On St. Alphonsus War Memorial there is a J.J. Blackburn who was supposed to be with the South Lancashire Regiment.

On the Town Hall database we have the following:-

PANEL 14 LEFT DRIVER J. J. BLACKBURN SOUTH LANCASHIRE REGT. (1ST BATT.)

Here is the link for Driver W. Blackburn

http://www.cwgc.org/find-war-dead/casua ... KBURN,%20W

Did the South Lancashire Regiment have Drivers?

I have a article for this soldier I'll look it up to-morrow.

In the last census 12 Arlington Street, Kirkdale, is occupied by Thomas [48] and Mary Kenny [47], and their son John [24]. Listed as a private house.

Hi Katie

It does seem very odd as your W Blackburn is with the Royal Artillery which doesn't fit with the South Lancashire Regiment!!

Anyway in 1914 there are no John J Blackburns listed as carters.

Reading DS reply makes it more complicated as a different family were listed at 12 Arlington St in 1911, but there is no Thomas Kenny listed in 1914 Gores living at that address, but seeing as nobody but a shop is listed in Arlington Street probably isn't relevant

Sorry not to have been more help

2402 Dvr Blackburn W was in 275 Brigade which was a Liverpool Territorial unit. I cannot see any JJ in the RFA casualties for 1916.

Just revisiting this soldier. I would like some feed back.

A John James Blackburn was baptised at St. Anthony's in 1888 son of John and Margaret Blackburn (nee Joyce)

A search of the 1891 Census has the family residing at 108, Hopwood Street, Liverpool.

Piece: 2903
Folio: 10
Page Number: 13

John Blackburn Head 35 Mar Tide Watcher (unusual) Born Liverpool
Margaret Blackburn 38 Mar born Ireland
Sarah Jane Blackburn 6 Born Liverpool
John James Blackburn 2 Born Liverpool.

So far I have been unable to locate the family on the 1901.

Now on the 1911 Census. There is a James Blackburn aged 22 born Liverpool who is a soldier with the 1st South Lancashire Regiment.

I am convinced that W. Blackburn is John James Blackburn and he may well have been in the South Lancashire Regiment originally but when he Died of wounds he was RFA.

Ancestry have made an error with his medal card they have him recorded as John T Blackburn

http://interactive.ancestry.co.uk/1262/ ... rchResults

I need to locate the family on the 1901 census. Any help in solving this puzzle very much appreciated.

Thanks

Just located a burial for Margaret Blackburn 108, Hopwood Street, buried 23rd March 1893

located a burial of John Blackburn 125, Arlington Street buried 12th March 1917 Section P Grave 27

I think this more or less confirms that John James Blackburn is W. Blackburn. as his father is recorded as John Blackburn.
