Newspaper articles

Post by MaryA »

My lovely dad, no longer with us for the past 16 years was a little bit of an information collector - of Liverpool history that is. Mum bless her, no longer with us for the past three years must have been a hoarder - and guess who takes after her.

Discovering a bag full of paperwork that I have never sorted out I discovered a treasure trove of newspaper articles, some from the Echo, others from the Mersey Mart which had a "Memory Lane" column.

I will, from time to time, scan some of these articles and type up the wording as it's probably too small to be read and post them for you if you are interested. These won't come thick and fast as I have a few other projects on the go as well, but I hope you enjoy them.

These pictures are obviously not the best, being copies from newspapers but I think some of the subjects and articles accompanying them are of interest. Credit is to be given to both the Liverpool Echo and the Mersey Mart and in particular a journalist called Derek Whale, who I hope doesn’t mind if we share his work.

Do remember that any ages/dates mentioned are direct quotes from the newspaper articles which appeared during the late 1970s/1980s.

Check on the "For Posterity Board".

If the photo & piece already posted is anything to go by, you truly do have a treasure trove. Could be there's a project waiting... The book 'Down Liverpool's Memory Lane'?

I do believe that was the title of one of the columns in one of the newspapers.

Yes, there is a treasure trove, I've been given permission by the Echo under the conditions I suggested to avoid copyright problems, so am transcribing the text attached to each, one of the reasons why it won't be quick before I post more of them.

These are not my words but some journalists research so sadly I don't feel that a book could be produced by me of it all, but perhaps it's better than you just enjoy them.
