George Dudley Twiston Davies-Airman?

I have been indexing the Cemetery Records as Part of Katie's WW1 Project and I came across the following Burial:-

I can't him on CWGC and the Discovery Catalogue is down so I can't see if any service records exist for him. There are 12 Royal Air Force Service men buried in Anfield who are on CWGC. George is not one of them. Any takers for a bit of delving?

His death was registered in West Derby, Q1 1918. There were members of this family in Liverpool and I may be able to find some notes I made years ago. They had a link to Threfalls Brewery, and although none are now local, there are plenty about with the surname, including a Grand National winning trainer, jump jockeys, writers, etc.

1901, family at 24 Salisbury Rd, Cressington Park, Richard H., wife Adelaide M, son George T aged 3, son Gerald aged 10 months. Richard was a bank cashier, b. Llanfair, Montgomeryshire.

Marriage at St Anne, Aigburth, Q1 1897, Richard Humphreys Davies and Adelaide M Barker. Her father was or had been MD of Threlfalls.
There is a memorial brass in St Anne's to some of this family. More later...

His daughter Adelaide Mary was married at St Anne’s in 1897 to Richard H. Davies, a bank cashier, and son of Dr Ellis Thomas Davies of 97 Shaw Street, Liverpool. They had two sons George Dudley Twiston Davies, b. 1898 and Gerald Barker Davies, b. about 1901. They lived at Croxteth, Salisbury Road, Cressington Park. When Richard died in 1908 the executors of his estate were his widow, John Twiston Davies and Ellis Thomas Davies, physicians and surgeons.

What I don't understand is why he appears to have been missed from everywhere. He doesn't appear on the CWGC site, nor on the list of Soldiers who died in the Great War. Nor the Town Hall Roll of Honour.

Liverpool Echo January 22 1918

DAVIES January 20 at Croxteth, Cressington Park, Aged 20 George Dudley T Davies, dearly beloved elder son of Adelaide and the late Richard Davies.

I have double checked his burial entry and it states his Occupation is "Airman"

Twiston Davies is fairly unusual so I think I'll add these couple of items into the mix.

From the Royal Aero Club Aviators' Certificates. Not sure where Ancestry got the birth date of 29 Aug 1898 from

There are also Discharge papers for a Private Samuel Twiston Davies of (4tj Res.) R.W. Fus. Enlisted on 20.1.15, married on 11.6.18 and three children. Of 62 Scotland Street, Llanrwst, N. Wales. Appears to have been in the Kings Lancs in 1918. If necessary there are a set of documents for this man.

Is the Discovery Catalogue up and running yet?

Discovery was OK this morning when I failed to find anything for George D T D. Geoff's Search Engine produced nothing, although I entered most of the likely combinations of info.

I think John Harold must be a cousin of our man, but still an interesting character. I read that he crashed several planes while in training then became an instructor. After 1918 he qualified as a doctor and served in the RAMC in WW2, and had a distingished medical career. No Liverpool links that I could see.

There is no reference to military or other service on the memorial plaque in the church. I'll try the old parish magazines next.

Perhaps he had started Training Daggers and Died before he became Qualified.

There is no mention of the death of George DT Davies in the parish magazines of St Anne, Aigburth, although a full tribute was printed to his grandfather, George Barker, who died later the same year.
