I can certainly confirm that Jean was the son to Frederick to Alice, and he did marry Lilian.
For MaryA's purposes, the information is as follows:MaryA wrote:Hi and welcome to the forum. Could you please give the full details from the marriage certificate to help with the search.
Frederick William Davies married Alice Halewood on 22nd August 1897. Frederick is recorded as being 21 years of age and Alice is recorded as being 20 years of age (although it is suspected that this is a bit of a fib, probably 17 years old).
Frederick was a bachelor and Alice was a spinster. Frederick is listed as being a Mariner and lived at 30 Queen Anne Street. Alice lived at 36 Springfield. Frederick's father was William Davies (recorded as deceased) and Alice's father was James (recorded as deceased). The occupation of Frederick's father was an Upholsterer and the occupation of Alice's father was a Carter.
Both Frederick and Alice signed the certificate and the witnesses were John Walmsley and Nelly Walsh.
Unfortunately, I have no diea when Alice died. My father vaguely remembers his great grandmother when he was growing up. He says he used to go round to her house during the scholl holidays and have Ambrosia rice. My father thinks he was about 8 years old or older, which would put the year at 1963 or more.dickiesam wrote:Any idea when she died?
There is always that chance that her birth name was recorded wrongly. I'll check my certificates but I'm fairly sure I did order one not so long ago and discarded it from my research because the father's name was not what I had on my records. Is it usual that when people marry, they don't give their full names? It seems odd that Fredrick would be married using his full name, and supposing that Alice had a middle name of Elizabeth, that she wouldn't use it too.dickiesam wrote:Regarding the 'E' in her name, there were only 2 births to fit the YoB 1880 [+/- 2 years] given in the 1910+1 census and both had 'E'...

As for the 1911 census, I couldn't remember if there were 5 children or 4. The 2 children who survived were Mary Alice and Jean. One of the children who died is Ellen Amelia in 1898 (born in 1898), but I haven't been able to find the other two children who would have died.
Just looking at the dates of the marriage and when Ellen Amelia was born, almost 9 months to the day of the marriage was when Ellen was born. Between 1898 and when Mary Alice was born in 1904 could be when the other two children were born, or even the period after Mary Alice was born and Jean was born. A brief search of Ancestry has not shown up any records.
