Thanks Karen for the photo. I've seen different years suggested as his year of death.

Re: Seth Davy
It is possible Seth Davy came from Jamaica there were planters called Davy who went from Devon to Jamaica and the surname survived there through their descendants and their slaves:-
http://www.ucl.ac.uk/lbs/media-new/pdfs/devonfam.pdf
There are Thomas Davys in the baptisms and even a Thomas Henry Davy born 25 Nov 1849 to Eliza Davy (Labourer) of Robin's Hall and baptised 2 June 1850 in the parish of Manchester, Middlesex County, Jamaica.
If Seth Davy was a seaman it's possible he died at sea or in another country so we may not be able to find his death recorded in Liverpool records.

From William Ashcroft Braley (1887-1959):-
Liverpool Echo, 18 July 1957

Liverpool Echo, 7 August 1957

Note that this correspondent claims that Seth Davy was from Port Antonio, West Indies. Port Antonio is in the parish of Portland in Jamaica. It's unlikely that we will find a baptism for Davy given that by the early 1900s he was a very old man and early Jamaican records are few if he was from there. Among later Jamaican records there are people called Davy or Davey in Portland, Jamaica so it is possible he came from there. There was once a Liver Passage and a Liver Vaults in Maguire Street.

Re: Seth Davy
Thanks a lot for adding to this post, makes me think what colourful scenes there would have been around the turn of the century that we will never know except in such stories.

Re: Seth Davy
Yes, Mary, but not just turn of a century. Who remembers the men who performed on bombed sites opposite Lewis’s, escapers from chained-up sacks, human anvils who had rocks or concrete broken on their chest, Prince Monolulu the racing tipster? Just post 2nd world war, I guess. Did they have names?

No I didn't remember him Daggers, but I'm amazed at the variety of characters who came to Liverpool, not surprising in itself, but how much time did he spend here? Pity I hadn't read this before last night's meeting, I'm sure Joyce would have had a memory of him.

Re: Seth Davy
Monolulu was probably only here for racing at Aintree, but the others seemed to be around longer, possibly locals.
