Birth certificates are not online and neither are baptisms of that time. The best way to get information re a birth is to get the certificate. http://www.gro.gov.uk/gro/content/certi ... efault.asp
Ideally you need to have the mother's maiden name. These are all the Leslie Hughes births registered in the Liverpool area in 1922 and 1923 from FreeBMD. http://freebmd.rootsweb.com/cgi/search.pl

Births Mar quarter 1922: Hughes, Leslie - m/n Jones - W.Derby - 8b - 1206
Births Jun qtr 1922:
Hughes, Leslie - Crilley - Toxteth P. 8b - 326
Hughes, Leslie N - Fielding - Toxteth P. - 8b - 331

Births Dec qtr 1922: Hughes, Leslie - Pearson - W.Derby - 8b - 1149
Births Jun qtr 1923: Hughes, Leslie W - Jackson - W. Derby - 8b - 825
Births Dec qtr 1923: Hughes, Leslie - Potter - Liverpool - 8b - 11

I haven't found a marriage of a James Hughes to any of the maiden names above that would 'fit'. When did Leslie James Brian Hughes actually die? The GRO death index would give his age at death and possibly his date of birth.

Re: Birthes Certificate

Post by MaryA »

There is a distinct lack of information given on this post. From Facebook entries Sharyn believes that her grandmother's maiden name is Louisa Heinz/e.

Referring to Leslie
"Dad as a young man and in the RAF landed at the Darwin Station Australia.
Dad died in Colac Australia in 1977 January.

Dad could have changed his mane to get away from Liverpool or lied about his age, he could have been 17 not 18yrs old. Perhaps I should try the RAF Liverpool, is there one there? but where do I go to get in touch with them?"

Blue, I don't think that is the marriage because there are only these births Hughes nee Haynes between 1920 and 1935...

HUGHES Aubrey W Shropshire, Wellington 1920
HUGHES Kenneth I Yorkshire, Leeds 1928
HUGHES Ronald J Warwickshire, Birmingham North 1931

Is Sharyn looking for RAF records? I think she needs to find the g.parents marriage before chasing a birth. Hopefully she knows when the g.parents died?

But with a name like Hughes...? Need more background info. What about a death cert from OZ?

Where, when and whom did 'Dad' marry? Help with age etc.

Very likely to be the right one, but that makes Sharyn's guess as his DOB at least 3/4 years out.

I am going to post more of what Sharyn wrote to me by pm over Facebook, it gives a further clue in that possibly Leslie may not have been born in Liverpool but possibly Derbyshire? She also thought Louisa Heinze was German.

"trying to get in touch with Olive Hughes. My Father was Born in Liverpool in July 1922-1923 his Name was Leslie James Brian Hughes. His parents were James & Lousia Hughes, I don't know when they were married, but could have been around the 1919 at Whaley Thorns - Derbyshire? Lousia's maiden name was Heinze. I thought perhaps Olive might know them. Also Frank William Hughes could be my Fathers Brother, he might still be alive, but I don't know where he lives in England, he was married in 1948 to Eva Ruth Meier from Stettin, Germany. I keep hitting brick walls, I have tried for years to find out about my father and family, he was also in RAF WW2, I take it at Liverpool as well, I'm in hoping Olive might just be an aunty. I live in Australia,
Dad came out in I think 1945. 1953 I came along dad & mum Married, went on to having another children, three sons, mum & dad separated when we were young children, mum just recently died without any info about dad. It's sad. Perhaps Olive might know something. "

Sharyn,
Who is Olive and how is she connected to this quest? This is the marriage to Eva from Germany.. The place and groom's name were incorrect.
William F Hughes married Eva R Meier
Registration district: Devizes, Wiltshire
Year of registration: 1948; Jun qtr
Volume no: 7C; Page no: 1087

You need to get the marriage cert to find a connection with Leslie James Brian Hughes.

Sharyn..
Re:

Do you have your parents' marriage certificate? If yes what are the full details from it..
names of bride and groom, ages, occupations, fathers' names and occupations if given, etc? If you don't have it, I strongly urge you do get a copy.

If you haven't seen it, there might be some information on it that will help,

Thanks for that Bert. Hopefully Sharyn will have a photo to speed things up. The spelling of Bryan appears to be a surname not a forename so this could fit if the mother then married a Hughes.... Just musing....

Birth: BRYAN, Leslie J
Registration district: Birmingham, Warwickshire
Year of registration: 1923; Dec qtr
Mother's maiden name: Bryan
Volume no: 6D; Page no: 362

And Sharyn... where does the connection with Liverpool fit in the family history? How do you know there is a connection?

The only thing I'm thinking is that Sharyn believes the birth to be 1922/23 and yet the death calculates it to be different. If her parents split up who registered the death? and Sharyn must remember that it was only that person's guess at the age and it might also be the same on the headstone.

I'm thinking whoever buried him, knew him well enough to give him his full title, also the spelling of Bryan, perhaps he remarried.
