Co. Cork birth certs

Before I spend any more pennies on the wrong certs !!!! What details can I expect to find on a birth cert transcribed in Co Cork please...are they much like the ones we get from our GRO.

Irish BMD certs are only available from September 1864 when the civil registry began. The certs used were basically the same as the English ones since the system was based on the one introduced in England and Wales in 1837.

At present you cannot order and pay online at the Irish GRO site.. http://www.welfare.ie/en/Pages/General- ... ffice.aspx
You must download the relevant application form and either complete it on screen or after printing it. You can then either fax or post it back to the GRO. Takes about 7 days if you can fax it or up to 14 days by post. There is a box to tick if you would like the cert emailed to you to speed up matters.

Specify a photocopy version which costs only 4 Euro [abt £3.25]. It is exactly the same as the certified copy costing more than 2x as much but has no legal standing. Ideal for family research. If you can't fax from your PC there is probably a friendly fax nearby but don't forget to take the fax number with you!

Re the heading "Apply for Certificates Online" on the web page... Do not use this 'pay online service' for BMDs. These are certified certificates and cost 20 Euro each [abt £18.50] plus a charge for postage from the Health Service Executive [aka the HSE] site. http://www.hse.ie/eng/services/Find_a_S ... icates_ie/
