Gerard Highton the Black Sheep of the family
Uncle Gerard Born 3 April 1899 joined the South Wales Borderers when ? (No. 48696 ) was almost cerainly wounded and hospitalised where ? on his recovery transfered ? to the Liverpool Regt.(No 99963 ) in the Non-Territorial Block of the Kings Liverpool No. ends at 10,000 Did he serve abroad ? Where ? I have his Medal card ( Victory and British ) but no dates was it the 10th reg. SWB ? I have a date 29 Oct 1920 but no indication what it means I met him only once at cousin Dots wedding in Rice Lane he lived in the Channel Isles and was big in Tomatoes

Gerard's S.Wales B's number is later than one I have looked at - 37843, who probably joined in early 1916.
As he earned the two medals he must have served overseas, at some time after the end of 1915 when they stopped adding the date.
Where did the 1920 date come from?

From George - Private George Highton 4317 b. 1.10.1875. Enlisted in the 9th
(Territorial) Battalion of the King's Liverpool Regt. On the 9.10.1915. He
was 40. On or about 8.5.1916 he was injured in France. Discharged
26.9.1916. He died 28.10.1927.
His wife Esther, (nee Price) and the baby Esther (my aunty Hettie).
The boy in the sailor suit is Gerard Highton, b. 3.4.1899.

The 1920 date: you say it was on a 'medal card'. Is this something in your possession, or the medal index card which has its image on Ancestry? I can see nothing on the online image other than name, numbers and regiments and the references to the medal roll (which will be at the National Archives at Kew and not online, and might hold a clue to battalions served in).
