One of the famous people to be buried at this cemetery, Robert Tressell, AKA Robert Croker AKA Robert Noonan, author of "The Ragged Trousered Philanthropists", has had his grave marked (twelve other people were buried in the same plot) so it may be helpful to compare the burial record to the location of the marker:-

Hi Mary, I have managed to manipulate a few 'godfrey' maps in order to put together a whole map to the cemetery in 1906. I would guess that the chapel would be the reference point and the Prison would be considered as North and the 'Workhouse' (latterly Walton Hospital) would be deemed as South ? At least now I would be able to walk the fields and recognise exactly where the paths should be?. As you may have discovered on your visit, there are many, many trees and shrubs that mask the evidence of any pathways so this diagram might be of help. I am going to try and visit again during late winter to very early spring and see what I might discover.
Map is here

Don't quite know what you would make of my photographs of the "original" but put together with yours they might give more detail. First off I wouldn't investigate the smaller paths too much, there is plenty to just wander along the bigger ones that still look like "lanes".

MaryA and myself visited Walton Parochial Cemetery yesterday (March 27th 2014) and made some remarkable discoveries that we both feel just might give us a much clearer picture of how the site may have been laid out. We are both translating our finds into working documents and in the fullness of time our hope is that most people will be able to get a little closer to where their ancestors might lie.
The City Farm now has volunteers that are weeding the worst areas to give clearer access to the military graves and eventually to less visited areas.
Access will still be limited at various times of year due to farm activities and animal breeding etc so advice is to contact the farm beforehand as normal and ask whether access would be acceptable ?

Some interesting (?) "facts" about Walton Park Cemetery, this first one is just a bit too vague!

Monk and Nun
Location: Liverpool - Walton Park / Rice Lane
Type: Haunting Manifestation
Date / Time: 2012
Further Comments: A local legend says that a monk and a nun were executed in the area after they were discovered having an affair. Another legend says that the children which the nuns had out of wedlock were buried along the lane. All are said to haunt their respective areas.

and this one is for you Mary :D

DO read the comments that follow it though, please.

It seems that there are many such apparitions accredited to Walton Jail and past executions.
