The soldier, Frank Ellis, KLR, 266067 has the address Burlington House, Blackpool, at least a couple of times on his army records.
Albert Ellis, 1843-1915 has the address on his probate, The Cottage, Burlington House, Blackpool, this Albert Ellis would appear to be the Father of Frank Ellis, 266067 and the grandfather of Frank Raphael Ernest Ellis.
The soldier Frank and Albert Ernest Ellis married to Ida, father of Frank Raphael are brothers.

Why he chose to tell porkies on his army forms, we'll never know.

Ok. The lady I contacted who has the family tree on Ancestry says her man, who is Frank Raphael Ellis went to British Honduras and was the nephew of Frank William East Ellis. It all seems very confusing. Even allowing for 'porkies' I still think her Frank Raphael and mine are 2 different men. Am I wrong???

We have the army records, 266067, the name Frank Raphael E Ellis is the name of the soldier. Other facts within those records point towards it being Frank William East Ellis, age, place of birth, addresses. Another name in the records is Albert Ellis, Burlington House, this is the address of the father of F W E Ellis.
Address of Next of Kin, Burlington House.

Frank Raphael Ernest Ellis (Honduras) I can't link to that address, age and birth all wrong, so it can't be him.

Could Albert Ellis 1843-1915 have had 2 sons called Frank, Frank William and Frank Raphael, I doubt it, more likely Frank William was hiding something or didn't want to reveal his true identity.

I think you're right. For some reason Frank W.E. stated on enlistment that he was Frank Raphael. We'll never know why.
Here's my predicament.
Do i now give the medal over to a family on the other side of the world while i have this niggling doubt in my mind that I'm not sending it to the right place or should i lock out my nagging doubt and send it away??

Shouldn't there be his regimental number marked on the edge of the medal? that might help with identification.

I would only send it off if the recipient family member was convinced he was one of theirs. If not, it may as well stay in your care.
I still think its Frank W E, having looked through it yet again, if its not him and it was a complete imposter stealing someone's identity, we'll never get to the bottom of it.
I don't want to make light of it, Frank W E being a palmist and crystal gazer and perhaps a bit of a celebrity at the time, may well have thought he would have faced ridicule in the army. So a different identity would suit.

Franks number is indeed on his medal with his rank - WO2 - and his unit.

That number would identify him from his Service Records and confirm whether we have been researching the correct person.

Hello, just wondering if you've found any more out yet about the owner of the medal?
Frank Raphael Ellis is in my family tree. He lived (in 1911 & for some time while attending school) with my Great Grandparents (his aunt & uncle). I am in Canada. Would love to hear back, Valerie.
