Simone, could you post the image for me? So does this now mean I can pay for a death record at LRO and there will be more verifying info- like mother Mary and Russia-Poland emigrant? I suppose it's definitely worth renting that LDS/FHC microfiche of the workhouse register.

The death cert will have the following headings...
1] When and where died
2] Name and surname
3] Gender
4] Age
5] Occupation [usually for a child the father's name (and sometimes his occupation) will be given]
6] Cause of death
7] Signature, description and residence of informant.
8] When registered
9] Signature of Registrar

Thank you for posting the image. Turns out I can see the freeBMD on ANC but no image. Their death result for Annie Ticks says Oct 1899!

Now I see that I won't be able to get the 1899 register for the Walton Workhouse. Was this anywhere near the docks that passenger steamships came into in 1899?

Walton Park is somewhat unmaintained now. It's just a farm. Does anyone know if the reference number 283 WAL/6/1/3 or 4/1/20 (they're different on the 2 entries apparently) would get me a location in the pauper field in case I ever visit Liverpool again?

That has to be an error. In case you are unfamiliar with GRO [General Registry Office] Index References, the reference for the death that Simone found... Deaths Dec 1899: Ticks, Annie [0] Liverpool 8b 111
indicates that the death was registered in the October - November - December quarter of 1899 in the Liverpool District Registry Office in Volume 8b, on Page 111. The actual date of death will be on the Register page itself and then on the death cert.

Ancestry seem to do this now... initial search results quote first month of the quarter, not last one, can be confusing... like this

Birth: abt 1899
Death: Oct 1899 - Liverpool, Lancashire

go into it you get full result...

The ref 283 wal etc is just ref to find the register entry in the archives....
notice a 's 24' in margin of entry... a few other entries on the page have this no... some have 'L23' so maybe this indicates where burial place is, in communal section, maybe someone else can help us with that

added later- just checked the register for 'Sicks' entry and column above S24 'says section and grave no' so this is where she is
age column says 8 months and then next column with '8' in denotes she is burial no 1648.
they are in groups of 9.. so she is in 1640-1649, the group above her is 1630-1639

Just to clarify although Annie was buried at Walton Park she was not in the Walton Workhouse she was in the Liverpool Workhouse. The registration district was Liverpool so the Workhouse can only be Liverpool.

PS- I'm trying to find an ancestor actually from Lancashire since you folks are so helpful. I know in Philadelphia this GM Bertha married the great grandson of a man from Leicester! Off the top of my head I only remember that and also my son's GF was born in Church Gresley. His father in Stoke on Trent, and other ancestors from Dereham & Methwold, Norfolk .
