I had a look for the Society you mention - couldn't find out how to join myself, and then discovered it was Cumberland in Nova Scotia that I was looking at

I also had a bit of difficulty opening the Cumbria Family History Society page that I thought might be able to help you, but that doesn't seem to be operative at the moment. There is, however, a contact email address on the Federation of Family History Society site, perhaps you could ask advice of the secretary http://www.ffhs.org.uk/members2/england/eng-beds.php

Cumberland and Westmorland Archives online http://www.cumberlandarchives.co.uk/ also have a search, a number of White burials coming up in the list but may not be in the place you want.

Hope somebody comes up with other suggestions for you. Good luck and let us know how you get on.

Transcriptions ofCockermouth Parish records are on Family Search. The actual records will either be at Whitehaven Archives or Carlisle Archives. However there may be a film of the records perhaps in Cockermouth Library. They are not on line as actual digital records

Is your Benjamin the one buried Cockermouth on 14 Jan 1846? If yes where does he say he was born in the 1841 census ie in the county or elsewhere?

Is he the one who is an ag lab? As he isn't showing as christened at Cockermouth on Family Search you might need to widen your search area a little.

hi ,yes Benjamin was an ag labourer . I have been in touch with the cumbrian family history soc as suggested and they have been very helpful, it doessay on the 1841 census that Benjamin was born in the county. we think his 1st wife was ann graham and she had 2 children baptised 1807 frances 1808 john in Lorton , rogerscale. we think Benjamin jnr ,his son to his 2nd wife sarah Wilson was baptised in wythop in 1814-1816 . sarah was born in wythop. . we are still looking for the death of ann white ( graham )which must be before 1813 his 2nd marriage . thankyou for your help and interest

A huge number of my family are also from Cumberland (from Cockermouth down to Keswick). A trip over there to the archives is on the cards, but it's fitting it in with everything else - it could be a while yet. If I get there any time soon, I'll see what I can dig.
