My great great grandfather John ANGUS was appointed as the Head Warder at Kirkdale Gaol from May 1844 (Previously Police Inspector Liverpool Constabulary)
In 1844 he is recorded at: Bootle Lane KIRKDALE and 1848 Liverpool Directory only as KIRKDALE. There are a few articles in the Liverpool Mercury re both Police & Gaol events.Parliamentary Papers, GB Parliament,
House of Commons, by HMSO, 1845 Page 61
Prisons of Great Britain - Returns of Officers
John disappeared or was possibly murdered sometime from the very late 1840's.
I haven't yet found him in the 1851 census but his wife Eliza & 4 children (Fanny, Lewis, John & Robert Alexander) are now at Kensington Rd WEST DERBY.
Any guidance and suggestions appreciated (especially if they are accessible from Australia eg links, email contacts etc)
Regards
Glenn ANGUS
