Re: Private James Jennings
Do you think there was confusion with 2760 Pte James Jennings, d. 7/12/15?

It just says Liverpool Mary
I have checked the Medal card for James Jennings 2760 and that has him recorded as deceased.

Re: Private James Jennings
Hi,
My Grandfather was James Jennings. We know he was reported missing during the first world war, but obviously came home. My Grandmother believed him to have been killed, so he may have been missing some time. The story is a sad one, as to what happened next, but we know very little about his army service, but my dad believed he may have been in the Kings regiment. James was born in 1888 and lived in and around the Scotland Road area for most of his life. If it is the same James, he married Catherine Hannah in 1914.
Hope this helps? Any more information would be appreciated.

Re: Private James Jennings
I see they had a child registered March Quarter 1915
Elizabeth Jennings (Hannah) Liverpool 8b 94
You could apply for her birth certificate and it may give you what Regiment and in some cases his Regiment Number. But its a chance you will have to take.
Also if you can give us anymore details on when he turned up and are there any Medals?

Re: Private James Jennings
Hi,
That would be my Auntie Lizzie. Seems to be the same James Jennings do you think? At the time of his marriage he lived at 53 Epsom Street. They had a number of children, but many died sad to say. Only three survived to adulthood. They had James, b 1917- d 1930 and James his father is noted as a marine fireman, so strangely did not stay in the army to the end of the war. I am not aware of any medals. I know he suffered ill health because of his experiences. He worked on the docks the rest of his life.
I am puzzled as to what happened in the army. I know he was reported missing and believed killed, but not much else. I only came upon this site and my grandfathers name by chance, so will have to look at previous research done some years ago.
Many thanks.

Re: Private James Jennings
What was James Jennings the elders date of birth? There is a CR10 card (Seaman's card) for a James Jennings Marine Fireman born 3rd April 1889 any connection?
I can't say this soldier is your James Jennings as no Service Record survives, and with him being recorded as a Marine Fireman in 1917 I would keep a open mind

Re: Private James Jennings
Hi,
My grandfather was born 8th Oct 1888. I made a mistake with his address at time of marriage, he in fact lived at 10 Slade St. Forgive me, I am a little topsy turvy at the moment, as I have recently lost my Mum and the inquest is this week, that is why I was looking on internet again, because my Gt grandmother died in 1898 and inquest was held for her also.
I think my grandfather James, must have returned to England before 1916. It is sad what happened next and I tried to find the full story for many years without success. It has remained a puzzle. My grandmother Catherine was given a pension of some sort, believing James to have been killed. Upon his return, [Whenever it was] she carried on collecting it [desperate need I imagine] and was sent to prison for three months, while pregnant with Elizabeth in 1915. It was a sad situation. I looked up all kinds of records some years ago, but found nothing. His trade as marine fireman must have been temporary I think. Any help or advice you can give would be appreciated. Some dates do not add up though, if my grandmother was in prison while pregnant with Elizabeth who was born early 1915, he must have gone missing in 1914? Or could it have been 1917 when she was pregnant with James and the story is confused? The plot thickens.

Re: Private James Jennings
The original poster has sent a reply via the moderator thanking us for the information posted. I would like to say that it was not uncommon during WW1 for claims to be made for monies. This includes my Great grandmother Mary Morris who claimed separation allowance for John Bannon who she claimed to have married in 1885? ) they never married at all and had scores of children) There were also those in recruiting soldiers who fiddled. Its all part of the history of what was WW1 and not many look at the battles that were going on at home. Married women with mouths to feed, separated from the main breadwinner, not knowing if their husband was coming home. So I don't blame these soldiers getting off I would have.
