Marriage Records Help Needed

Post by mikeandb »

I am trying to help a cousin with her research but I am not getting far so I thought some kind person on here might help.
Free BMD marriage records show Elizabeth Ann Lane Dec Qtr 1882 West Derby, Elizabeth Lane Sep Qtr 1883 West Derby, Elizabeth Lane June Qtr 1885 West Derby and Elizabeth Lane Dec Qtr 1886 Liverpool but we cant find the marriages in either RC or CofE records on Ancestry.
Any help would be appreciated.

Hello Mike,
Can you confirm this is Elizabeth's birth? It gives an age which can be used in censuses after her marriage under one of the possible spouse surnames.

Birth: LANE, Elizabeth Annie
Registration district: West Derby, Lancashire
Year of registration: 1860; Mar qtr
Volume no: 8B; Page no: 323

How do you know Elizabeth was married in that decade?

To all those who have responded, thanks but initially the query was why the marriages for all the dates shown do not show up in either RC or CofE Liverpool records in Ancestry. The decade is an educated guess as is a birth year of 1863 but if the records could have been viewed the a process of elimination could have started without the cost of all the certificates. I have passed your information on to cousin Julie and maybe we will be back asking again for your kind help when she has had time to look at it.

Assuming you mean parish marriage records, the answer could be that the records for all churches in the general area have either not been transcribed yet or are simply missing as we know some are. There is also the possibility that the record was mis-transcribed and has not yet been corrected.

If you are trying to find an age and a father's name from the marriage entry you need some more background. May I ask where the query emanated from if there isn't a confirmed date or year of birth? Where did the name Elizabeth Ann Lane come from and is it known whether she lived beyond 1911?

Edited to add: As far as I am aware a record of a marriage which took place only in a Registry Office would not be recorded in a parish register. Therefor it would not be in the Ancestry parish record collection.
