Hi DS , Unfortunately there is not.
According to a family letter I've seen recently , he married ( in NYC ) an irishwoman from Ardmore,Co.Waterford.
They emigrated to South America as colonists in Brazil , and finally settled down in Argentina.
The thing is John's lifestory was never too mentioned. Just he was irish.
The letter said he died in Uruguay without knowing his youngest daughter ( my gmother ) .
I'm affraid he deserted his wife and kids (5 at that time) , or something was wrong with him , since no one of his descendants was named John after him. It's just like they "erased" him from family history.
I guess that's why his birthplace is not known... But it's what I try to find out ....
Fledge wrote:An awful lot of 'erasing' goes on in family history. And desertion of children by fathers around that time.
Hi Fledge , I imagine it was very shocking.
Apparently they were RC , since they got their first 3 kids baptised as RC either.
But by the time of John's "death" she baptized their two younger kids in an anglican church.
It seems she met an englishman ( at that time they lived in Rosario where british railroads brought a lot of inmigrants from UK ) and about 8 years after she married him in a methodist church , as she were protestant , which she's not.
Hi again everybody ! I would appreciate your help on this :
I've noticed that FreeBMD death indexes show age at death only from 1866 on but there's another site , http://www.lancashirebmd.org.uk/ , that gives that info from 1837 on.
The thing is Liverpool area' death indexes seem not being included in that database.
Do you know if database building it's in progress or so ? It would be very helpful in telling one namesake person from another
You can see the coverage here http://www.lancashirebmd.org.uk/deathcov.php so far as I am aware all of the databases are an ongoing project with the site but obviously dependent upon transcribers/checkers etc.
The difference between the two databases are, and somebody may well correct me, that FreeBMD, Ancestry, Findmypast and the indexes available in the Record Office are all copies of the GRO indexes, whereas those on the LancsBMD site are from the local Parish and Register Offices, which is how we get the benefit of Church names where applicable (not RC or non conformist because of the requirement to have a Registrar present).
