John Kelly born abt 1887 - looking for death information

Hi, I am just new to this forum, wondering if anyone can help with information on the death of John Kelly - my grandfather. I have been searching for over a year for any information.
He was born around 1887 to John Kelly & Agnes Callaghan. He married Delia Bridget Durney in 1910.
Cannot find him in 1911 census, Delia Bridget Kelly was living with her sister Annie Reeves (nee Durney) at 22 Herriot St Liverpool. John was away as he was a seaman. Delia had lost a child at that time.
John & Delia Bridget had several children, Agnes b1914, John B 1916, Elizabeth B1918, Margaret B1920
Joseph James B1922, Patrick Charles b1926 William b1928 (my dad) and Maureen b1930.
There is confusion as to when John Kelly died. We know he died of pneumonia but when??
We think it is somewhere between 1930 & 1943 - Delia Bridget remarried in 1943 to Richard T Bliss.

When did Bridget start using Delia, I notice she was baptised Bridget and married twice using the name Bridget, she also appears as Bridget on the 1911 census at 23 Herriot St.

Do you know the address where they were living for their last born in 1930?

The 1938 directory shows a Mrs Delia Kelly, 42 Fairclough Lane, The Oddfellows, Public House,
Do you know if its her?

1891 census John is listed as born Manchester, with parents John 32 labr & Bridget 29 both born Dublin
at 38 Doncaster St Scotland div. Older bro James 6 bn Lpl, younger sis Mary Margt 1 bn Lpl.
1901 says born Lpool

Hi Tina, Thanks for the info you have John Kelly and his parents John Kelly & Agnes Kelly nee Callaghan - we have this info and it is John Kelly born 1888/87 for whom I am looking for death info.

Hi Lesley again quick question. Do you have a tree in Anx? It says John Kelly or Kerry was buried in 1940 at Ford cem, had been living at 126 Smithdown rd (Hospital)

Hi Tina, Not sure what you mean by Anx - is that Ancestry? If so yes there is a tree in Ancestry, called Kelly/Kenealy Family Tree. I have seen the entry for the death in 1940 and I am not sure if or if not him as I just dont have any concrete information. There are a couple of others in the time frame 1930 - 1943 that also might fit, just thought that perhaps someone with fresh eyes might find something I had not seen before. I am happy to purchase DC's but only wanted to purchase as few as necessary to get at the truth.

Yes Lesley, I'm in the Wild West..
Was born in Wavertree so didn't need to look up Smithdown Rd!
I understand about the burial for John and about paying out for certs when you're not sure.
Mary and co will be able to tell you how to apply to the GRO, listing the informants name as his wife.
I'm not sure what the search would cost.
There's another tree in Anx which has his death 8th Nov 1930 aged 45yrs bn Manchester 1885 wife Delia died Lpl 1964, 73yrs.

There's a Delia Durney aged 10yrs in 1901 stepdaughter of John Dann/Dunn wife Bridget
with Durney sibs Patrick and Annie and some Dann/Dunn step sibs.

I agree with others that the 1940 death/burial looks like the right one. It's a pity the Ford Cemetery burial record has a hospital address rather than a home address.

Thanks Blue, I believe that John Kelly had pneumonia so he would have been in the hospital. Not sure if being a mariner meant that particular hospital or not. Anyway I am ordering this one and hopefully we will get a clue.

Hi and welcome to the forum. I'll keep my fingers crossed that although the residence at death might have been the hospital, perhaps a family member registered the death and so confirms things for you.

When did Bridget start using Delia

I wonder if Delia is a recognised nickname for Bridget, only thinking as I had an aunt I had always known as Delia until I came to check on the marriage of her and my uncle only to find that her name was actually Bridget.

Hi Mary, yes it could be! My maternal grandfather was born Henry William, married as John Henry, had children as James Henry and on DC was William Henry and was always known as Jack all of which I didnt know until doing the research. Thought I was looking at several different people at first.

So there are one or two DC that I will order and hope there is sufficient info on them to connect them to the family.
