You're a star, Bert. Thanks. I'm just in the middle of doing my 'proper work' but keep getting waylaid with family history (!) so it may be tomorrow before I can take a proper look at the map and see if it inspires a eureka moment.

That looks like Smithfield Street above Highfield Street.

Yes Blue,

It is Smithfield, just found it on a clearer map, unfortunately Spitalfields is not on it.

The very nice man who enumerated that area has drawn you a map. His text reads -
All that part bounded by the South Side of Dale Street, and the west side of the Old Haymarket - the north side of Whitechapel, and the east side of Preston Street, including Manchester Street, Spital Fields, part of Shawhill Street, Vaughans Buildings and sundry Courts.

Manchester is behind the entrance to the old tunnel.

In the 1841 and 1851 a number of Spitalfield(s) locations appear, all are in the parish of St George. That Church was built in Derby Square on what is now the site of the Queen Victoria monument.

Just to let you know that the map was from the 1851 Enumerator's walk, but possibly those courts might still be the same.

"Jolliff" might be interesting to Peter.

Hi friends.

I've just discovered I am going to be in Liverpool tomorrow afternoon (Saturday). Can anyone tell me if it is possible to search records anywhere after lunch on Saturday? Not sure when the Record Office etc are open these days.

Thanks.

The Liverpool Record Office is presently closed and due to reopen mid May after refurbishment so unfortunately you will not be able to visit tomorrow.
