Thomas Campbell March Q 1923 West Derby vol 8b p568 aged 26
Ruth Campbell married again in 1935 to James Hopkins, Liverpool S 8b 184 and children born after that date had the Hopkins/Cockram combination, no other death of Thomas Campbell appears to fit age wise.

The wedding certificate is available online... pm me your email address and save yourself a tenner
from the marriage certificate:
21 March 1915 Liverpool Parish Church
Michael Thomas Campbell age 21,bachelor, painter, Heath Street, father Michael Campbell painter
Ruth Cockram, 20, spinster, Heath Street, father Samuel Cockram Carter
witnesses A Whittle, E Lyon
Heath Street had lots of apartment buildings so it's likely that's where they set up home together, there are 2 Campbell families there in the 1911 census but no Michaels.
To add to the confusion, his brother Richard was married in 1913 in a Catholic church and his father is listed as Michael Campbell, deceased, painter. Their older brother John James was a witness.
Hi Amanda, your first point cannot be disregarded, as you say stranger things happened! Your kind offer to help with the cert is gratefully accepted, I'll pm my email address shortly.I had the Heath Street info,(interestingly,
brother John James' wife was nee Whittle, as per the witness). Apart from the oddity of Michael senior being dead!, I would be interested in seeing what you have re Richard's marriage, as I am still tracing that info. And yes, they were all in the same trade (including me when work was short).
I have to say, I'm overwhelmed by the help I've received ,you folks have achieved more in the past few days than I've managed in several years of blundering around. I tried to keep up and thank you for each posting, but my reflexes are not as panther-like as yesteryear, so at the risk of this turning into an Oscar acceptance speech, thank you to Katie, Hilary. Amanda, and Bert, I am truly grateful.
I'll go now and notate all of this and try to absorb it.
Hello again folks, I'm a little further along with the research you so kindly helped me with a while ago, and ask for a bit more assistance if possible.
I took note of the suggestion made by Katie, and purchased my aunt's birth certificate (1917), and indeed it states my grandfather's rank as 'Private, 9th Kings Liverpool Reg'.
In view of the extensive research made previously on my behalf re this matter, I feel confident that the info discovered is kosher, and refers to my grandfather.
With that in mind, I tried to discover more about the activities of the regiment, and found that it was sub divided into 3 'sections' 1/9,2/9,and 3/9.It seems that the 3/9 never went abroad, so that leaves the other two, and this is where I'm floundering.
My next step is to get the certificate to check cause of death, but my attempts to delve into the history of the above 'sections' has bewildered me to say the least, and any informed comments and offers of help would be gratefully accepted and hopefully get me to the end of the road with this (to paraphrase Peter Dawson).
