Record of Death James Sandford

Can anyone help me to find the record of death for James Sandford. He was born approx 1843 in Newcastle on Tyne. He settled after marriage in Liverpool. This is a record of his family
1881 Census.
3 Maxwells Square Off Millgate Wigan Lanc`s.
Margaret Sandford ? Head Wife 35 born Newcastle Upon TYne.
Charles Sandford Son 9 born Liverpool.
Pheobe Sandford Daughter 8 born Gloucester Cheltenam.
Mary A Sandford Daughter 6 born Sheffield.

Birth Record of last child.
Helena Sandford born 19/07/1882
Liverpool Workhouse Mount Pleasant
Home address 40 Great Richmond Street Liverpool.
Mother Margaret Sandford nee Archer.
Father James Sandford occupation Actor.
As you can see the family moved around a lot because of fathers` occupation. I have searched census records and at no time since his marriage 08/07/1867 Newcastle Upon Tyne can find James with his family.
Dont know what happened to him. I wonder why I cant find his death record even if it was outside of Liverpool. Any help appreciated.

I think James may have been a little fluid with his age! In 1881 I can find a James Dandford aged 33 born in Newcastle upon Tyme (33years old) as a boarder in Newcastle upon Tyne said to be married and a comedian.

In 1891 I can see a J H Sandford single 41 (born 1850) a lodger a comedian born Scotland in Tipton Staffs


I can't see him after 1891 so maybe he died between 1891 and 1901?

Thanks Hilary, yes I found record 1881 census where he was living in Pink Lane Newcastle in fact the building is still there. Where was J H Sandford living 1891 census bn Scotland Tipton Staffs. Age 41. Perhaps a search for this J H Sandford from other census records would see if he could be a possibility.

Hi Teresa, Margaret is alive in 1911 a widow office cleaner 62 bn Newcastle
Phobey as spelt daughter married surname Ross 35 married 11 yrs 2 children 1 died, bn Cheltenham
Annie Ross 8 yrs bn Lpool.
Marriage Lpool St Simons 1900.
Someone has a tree in Anx and has Phoebe married to one Wm Holt before this but no details.
Can't find this marriage.

These records are from my folders which I have collected over the years.
Therefore if Margaret Sandford was a widow in census records then James died approx after birth of Helena / Helen c1882 to 1891.
Perhaps she said she was a widow to save face.
Going by census records he was never living with the family when census was transcribed.
I think he may have deserted them.
In 1901 son Charles Sandford c1876 bn Liverpool was living in Durham age 25 boarder
occupation artist/actor. So he too followed in his fathers` footsteps.

There is a Charles James Vavasour Sandford born London in 1911 census
boarder 36 single Actor 14 Lacey St Widnes.
Free BMD have a Charles James V born in Blackburn june qtr 1874.
Don't think it's himself.

Hi Tina. Perhaps Charles followed in his fathers` footsteps. ( inventing ages/surnames/&places of birth. ) He too travelled around. In 1901 age 25 d.o.b 1876 born in Liverpool He was living ( as a boarder ) in Durham St Giles. Occupation Artist/Actor.
