Thank you Mark I've pm'd you.

My great uncle Frank Ambrose was in the Liverpool Police and amongst other medals received the Margaret Wheatley Cross but I don't know what for.

I have just received a copy of Harold Claydon's army record, provided under the FOI Act .

I will report once I have decoded the abbrieviations for the units in which he served.

The record does show his entitlement to the 1939/45 Star, France and Germany Star, Defence and War Medals.

In April 1945, he was serving with 1st Canadian Army Civil Affairs, Military Government Administration"!
He finished the war as a Captain serving as "Public Safety Officer (SO3)" in Hanover, Germany.

My grandmother Agnes Fagerass, who was 15 at the time, told me of the devestation that night. From what we've been told by my grandmother she wasn't too far away and got injured herself. She had a small burn mark my nan did from that day. She said Hannah (Mary as the family called her) spoke fondly of all those involved. It must have been horrific!

We've been looking for some letters nan kept about that night but can't trace them anywhere!

I have recently acquired a large quantity of material relating to Harold Claydon, including photos, certificates etc

This photo shows Harold on enlistment with the police. He is standing second left in the middle row.

Amongst the papers are letters from Nellie Walsh, whom he rescued on the 12/13th March 1941.

Let us pause and remember those who resided in Adlington and Lace Street, Liverpool and who died on the night of 12/13th March 1941.

Let us also remember those who selflessly risked their lives to rescue those that survived.
