I am trying to find information about my husbands grandfather
his name was Walter Stirrup from what we know he was in the Navy during
WW1 on battle ships and we think he fought in the battle of jutland I think that is
how you spell it. Walter was born about 1888 , and married a Florance Deboo in about
1912. we would like to find out about his Naval records if possable.
Thank you Dampier
Records of Naval seamen are on the National Archives site. A quick look shows no Walter Stirrup.
Incidently he married Florence Deboo at St Catherine's church Edge Hill in 1912. The marriage certificate would show Walter's occupation. Do you have any of their children's birth certificates as again they would show his occupation.
The marriage is on Ancestry and shows Walter as a hotel porter.
The are Records on Ancestry for a Private Walter Stirrup Royal Army Medical Corps 121551. His Address is recorded as 36, Macauley Street, Edge Hill. His next of kin is a F E Stirrup. I also have details for the following Soldier who Died of wounds.
